In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  And the earth was formless and void, and darkness (physical and spiritual) was over the surface of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters (physical and spiritual)….Then God said, “Let there be an expanse (or firmament) in the midst of the waters (Heb. = mayim), and let it separate (same word used throughout the OT almost exclusively for the separation to be made between the holy and the profane, cf. Ex 26:33, Lev 10:10, 11:47, 20:24-25, 1 Chron 23:13, Ezra 6:21, 9:1, 10:11, Neh 9:2, 10:28, 13:3, Is 59:2, Ez 22:26, 42:20) the waters from the waters.”  And God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.  And God called the expanse heaven (Heb. = shamayim).  (In the same way, as high as the heavens are above the earth, so are the Lord’s thoughts and ways above our own, Is 55:9.  For throughout Scripture water represents teaching and understanding.  And as is made clear by the Lord Jesus’ own teaching, for every event under heaven there is a carnal and fleshly understanding which is according to the ways of this world; but for those who have ears to hear there is also a spiritual and heavenly understanding that is according to the ways of God.  And surely the whole expanse of heaven separates the two.)
Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.  And God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:1-2,6-10

Then God said, “Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.”  And God created the great sea monsters, and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.  And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”  And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
Genesis 1:20-23

“And behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish.”
Genesis 6:17

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.  And the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.  (Recall that Jesus said His coming would be just like in the days of Noah, and that He would be coming in the clouds.  In 2 Thessalonians 2 it is said that Jesus will destroy the man of lawlessness with the splendor or epiphany or appearing of His coming.  Jesus is the Word of God, the living Word.  When the word is poured out in a flood like rain upon the earth the brightness of its glory will destroy all lawlessness, just like in the days of Noah.  Thus the rain is a type of the word of God, the Word of God who is Jesus who is coming in the clouds with power and great glory.)
On the very same day Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wive and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark,…and the LORD closed it behind him.  Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days; and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth.  And the water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark floated on the surface of the water.  And the water (physical and spiritual) prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains (physical and spiritual) everywhere under the heavens were covered.  The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered….And the water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.
Genesis 7:11-13,16-20,24

But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided.  Also the fountains of the deep and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained; and the water receded steadily from the earth, and at the end of one hundred and fifty days the water decreased.  And in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month (if this is the same calendar of the Jews, this would be during the time period which would become the feast of Tabernacles, cf. Lev 23:34), the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat.  And the water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.
Then it came about at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made; and he sent out a raven, and it flew here and there until the water was dried up from the earth.  Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the water was abated from the face of the land; but the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, so she returned to him into the ark; for the water was on the surface of all the earth.  Then he put out his hand and took her, and brought her into the ark to himself.  So he waited yet another seven days; and again he sent out the dove from the ark.  And the dove came to him toward evening; and behold, in her beak was a freshly picked olive leaf.  So Noah knew that the water was abated from the earth.  Then he waited yet another seven days, and sent out the dove; but she did not return to him again.
Now it came about in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth.  Then Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was dried up.  And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
Genesis 8:1-14

Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, “Now behold, I Myself do establish my covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth.  And I establish my covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth….I will remember My covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh…”
Genesis 9:8-11,15

Now the angel of the LORD found her (Hagar, after she had fled from the presence of Sarai) by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur…(In the same way the Lord comes to us when we rest by the spring of the water of the word.)
Genesis 16:7

Now the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day….[And Abraham said], “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please do not pass your servant by.  Please let a little water be brought and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree…”
Genesis 18:1,3-4

Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the boy, and sent her away.  And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beersheba.  And the water in the skin was used up, and she left the boy under one of the bushes.  Then she went and sat down opposite him, about a bowshot away, for she said, “Do not let me see the boy die.”  And she sat opposite him, and lifted up her voice and wept.  And God heard the lad crying; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What is the matter with you, Hagar?  Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.  Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him by the hand; for I will make a great nation of him.”  Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water (so must the Lord open our eyes to see the well of living water that is in the word of God); and she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink….
Genesis 21:14-19

Now it came about at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying, “God is with you in all that you do; now therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, or with my offspring, or with my posterity; but according to the kindness that I have shown to you, you shall show to me, and to the land in which you have sojourned.”  And Abraham said, “I swear it.”  But Abraham complained to Abimelech because of the well of water which the servants of Abimelech had seized.  And Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this thing; neither did you tell me, nor did I hear of it until today.”  And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and the two of them made a covenant.  Then Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.  And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What do these seven ewe lambs mean, which you have set by themselves?”  And he said, “You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand in order that it may be a witness to me, that I dug this well.”  Therefore he called that place Beersheba; because there the two of them took an oath.  So they made a covenant at Beersheba; and Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, arose and returned to the land of the Philistines.  And Abraham planted a tamarisk tree (a tree of righteousness planted by the well of living water) at Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.
Genesis 21:22-33

Then the servant took ten camels from the camels of his master (Abraham), and set out with a variety of good things of his master’s in his hand; and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.  And he made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at evening time, the time when women go out to draw water.  And he said, “O LORD, the God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today, and show lovingkindness to my master Abraham.  Behold, I am standing by the fountain of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water…”
Genesis 24:10-13

Then Laban unloaded the camels, and he gave straw and feed to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.
Genesis 24:32

Now there was a famine in the land, besides the previous famine that had occurred in the days of Abraham.  So Isaac went to Gerar, to Abimelech king of the Philistines.  And the LORD appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; stay in the land of which I shall tell you.  Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.  And I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”  So Isaac lived in Gerar….
Now Isaac sowed in that land (of Gerar of the Philistines), and reaped in the same year a hundredfold.  And the LORD blessed him, and the man became rich, and continued to grow richer until he became very wealthy; for he had possessions of flocks and herds and a great household, so that the Philistines envied him.  Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines stopped up by filling them with earth.  Then Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you are too powerful for us.”  And Isaac departed from there and camped in the valley of Gerar, and settled there.
Then Isaac dug again the wells of water which had been dug in the days of his father Abraham, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham, and he gave them the same names which his father had given them.  (In the same way do the powers of darkness stop up the wells of our spiritual fathers so that each new generation must dig their own wells of living water and cannot rely upon the spiritual life of their predecessors to sustain them.)  But when Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of living water, the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with the herdsmen of Isaac, saying, “The water is ours!”  So he named the well Esek, because they contended with him.  Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over it too, so he named it Sitnah.  (In the same way the former inhabitants of the land into which the Lord leads us–who are pride and greed and selfishness and all the rest of our sinful nature‑‑in the same way these will quarrel with us over the wells of living water we dig in the word of God so as to prevent us from abiding in the land of our inheritance which is the kingdom of God.  When this happens we must be like Isaac and persevere and keep digging those wells so as to be faithful and obedient to God and dwell in the land of promise rather than going down to Egypt which represents the bondage of sin and the flesh.)  And he moved away from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it; so he named it Rehoboth (i.e., broad places), for he said, “At last the LORD has made room (or broad) for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
Then he went up from there to Beersheba.  And the LORD appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you.  I will bless you, and multiply your descendants, for the sake of My servant Abraham.”  So he built an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.  (Beersheba means “well of the oath”, and it is significant that both Abraham and Isaac called upon the Lord there and dug a well.  The oath or covenant refers to that made between Abraham and then Isaac with Abimelech who typifies the Gentiles that see the blessing of God that comes through His people the Jews and make covenant with them so as to get in on the blessing (cf. Gen 12:3).  On another level, Abimelech means “my father is king”; thus the oath or covenant is also typical of the oath God swore to Isaac and the covenant we enter into with our Father God who is king.  Associated with this covenant is a well of living water which we dig so we may abide there in that covenant.)
Then Abimelech came to him from Gerar with his adviser Ahuzzath, and Phicol the commander of his army.  And Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”  And they said, “We see plainly that the LORD has been with you; so we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you, that you will do us no harm, just as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.  You are now the blessed of the LORD.'”  Then he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.  And in the morning they arose early and exchanged oaths; then Isaac sent them away and they departed from him in peace.  Now it came about on the same day, that Isaac’s servants came in and told him about the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”  So he called it Shibah; therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.
Genesis 26:1-6,12-33

Then Jacob took fresh rods of poplar and almond and plane trees, and peeled white stripes in them, exposing the white which was in the rods.  And he set the rods which he had peeled in front of the flocks in the gutters, even in the watering troughs, where the flocks came to drink; and they mated when they came to drink.  So the flocks mated by the rods, and the flocks brought forth striped, speckled, and spotted.
Genesis 30:37-39

And they took Joseph and threw him into the pit.  Now the pit was empty, without any water in it.

Genesis 49:3-4

Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a daughter of Levi.  And the woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months.  But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch.  Then she put the child into it, and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.  And his sister stood at a distance to find out what would happen to him.  Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, with her maidens walking alongside the Nile; and she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid, and she brought it to her.
When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the boy was crying.  And she had pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”  Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”  And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go ahead.”  So the girl went and called the child’s mother.  Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me and I shall give you your wages.”  So the woman took the child and nursed him.  And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son.  And she named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”
Exodus 2:1-10

Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.  Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came to draw water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.  Then the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock….
Exodus 2:15-17

But it shall be that if they will not believe even these two signs or heed what you say, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground; and the water which you take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.
Exodus 4:9

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn (or hard); he refuses to let the people go.  Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he is going out to the water, and station yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand the staff that was turned into a serpent.  And you will say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness.  But behold, you have not listened until now.”  Thus says the LORD, “By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned to blood.  (In the same way does the Lord strike the spiritual waters with the staff or rod of the powers of darkness so that they are polluted with death and undrinkable by the people.)  And the fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will become foul; and the Egyptians will find difficulty in drinking water from the Nile.”‘”  Then the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.'”  (In the same way does death permeate the spiritual land of Egypt, whether in noble or ignoble vessels.)
So Moses and Aaron did even as the LORD had commanded.  And he lifted up the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.  And the fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile.  And the blood was through all the land of Egypt.  But the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.  Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house with no concern even for this.  So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile.  And seven days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile.
Exodus 7:14-25

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the streams and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.'”  So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.  And the magicians did the same with their secret arts, making frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
Exodus 8:5-7

Now the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, as he comes out to the water, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me….”‘”
Exodus 8:20

Do not eat any of it (the passover lamb) raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with its entrails.
Exodus 12:9

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters (of judgement) were divided.  And the sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.  (In the same way the Lord provides a way through the midst of the sea of the world–which is under the judgement of the law for its iniquity–in order that His people might escape from their enemies, who are the powers of darkness.  That way of provision is the baptism into the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  At that time the people of God die to the old man of sin and are raised to a newness of life in Christ so as to walk safely through the sea of the iniquity of the world and the wrath and judgement that is on the world for its sin.  At the same time their enemies are destroyed by the floodwaters of the curse:)…Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen.”  So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.  And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh’s entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.  (In the same way does the Lord destroy the enemies of His people by drowning them in a flood of water, just like in the days of Noah.  The water is the word of God, the law and its judgement, the word which Jesus spoke.)  But the (true) sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
Exodus 14:21-22,26-29

He who rejects Me, and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day (which is today, cf. 1 Jn 2:18).
John 12:48

Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and said, “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.  (The horse and its rider represent the strength of the flesh and the powers of darkness who “ride” the flesh of men; the rider also represents that cruel taskmaster of the law who, like Pharaoh, enslaves the people of God.)…Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; and the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea.  The deeps cover them; they went down into the depths like a stone (cf. Neh 9:11, Jer 51:63, Rev 18:21).  Thy right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power; thy right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.  And in the greatness of Thine excellence Thou dost overthrow those who rise up against Thee; Thou dost send forth Thy burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.  And at the blast of Thy nostrils the waters were piled up, the flowing waters stood up like a heap; the deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.  The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire shall be filled with them; I will draw out my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’  Thou didst blow with Thy wind (of true doctrine, which is the Spirit of Christ), the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty (or majestic) waters….”
Exodus 15:1,4-10

For the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea on them; but the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea.  And Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing.  And Miriam answered them, “Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; the horse and his rider He has thrown into the sea.“
Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.  And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah.  (Notice that immediately after being delivered from their slavery in Egypt and baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea–cf. 1 Cor 10:2–the people could find no water to drink except the bitter waters of Marah.  For this episode foreshadowed their coming to Sinai where Moses would receive the bitter spiritual waters of the law which like the waters of Marah the people could not drink.  In the very same way after being delivered from our slavery to sin and being baptized into the death of Christ, who lay three days in the grave, we are confronted with the bitter waters of the law–we want to serve and obey God, but how can we ever obey His righteous law and be holy as He is holy?)  So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”  Then he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet.  (That tree is the cross of Christ, for only the cross of Christ can make the bitter waters of the law sweet.  For only when we are crucified with Christ so as to die to the old man of sin can we be raised up with Christ in the power of His resurrection to live a life free from the control of sin and so fulfill the righteous requirements of the law, cf. Rom 6-8, esp. 8:4.  Without the cross all of the law of commandments and statutes and regulations is bitter, for it can only arouse our sinful flesh so we bear fruit for death.  But by the cross we are made to die to that by which we were bound so that we serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.  In this way the bitter water of the law is made sweet; indeed, with the cross “God’s commandments are not burdensome”, 1 Jn 5:3.)  There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them.  And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer.”  Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters.  (After we find the cross and are crucified with Christ so as to be raised up with Him and it is no longer ourselves who live but Christ who lives in us, then we are able to obey the righteous requirements of the law and experience the blessings spoken of here.  In the cross there is healing, and rest and peace and abundant provision; in the cross there are those twelve springs of the living water of the apostles of Christ by which we may abide to experience all the grace of God.)
Exodus 15:19-27

Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed by stages from the wilderness of Sin, according to the command of the LORD, and camped at Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.  Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water that we may drink.”  And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me?  Why do you test the LORD?”  But the people thirsted there for water; and they grumbled against Moses and said, “Why, now, have you brought us up from Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”  So Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, “What shall I do to this people?  A little more and they will stone me.”  Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.  Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb (a type of the mount of crucifixion); and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.”  (“That rock was Christ”, 1 Cor 10:4, for it was Jesus who was struck by the serpent, cf. Gen 3:15, so as to become a well of living water for the people to drink.)  And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.  And he named the place Massah and Meribah because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us, or not?”
Exodus 17:1-7

You shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst.  There shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.
Exodus 23:25-26

Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting, and wash them with water.
Exodus 29:4

You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base of bronze, for washing; and you shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it.  And Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in it; when they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, that they may not die; or when they approach the altar to minister, by offering up in smoke a fire sacrifice to the LORD.  So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they may not die; and it shall be a perpetual statute for them, for Aaron and his descendants throughout their generations.  (Since the true sons of God are a “royal priesthood”, 1 Peter 2:9, this has meaning for us as well.  Unless we wash our hands and our feet that are soiled with the filth of the world with the water of the word before entering into the presence of God, we will likewise die.)
Exodus 30:18-21

And Moses took the calf which they had made and burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the surface of the water, and made the sons of Israel drink it.
Exodus 32:20

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”  So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water (for, like Jesus in Jn 4:32, in the presence of the Lord he had spiritual food to eat and spiritual water to drink).  And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
Exodus 34:27-28

It’s (the sacrifice’s) entrails, however, and its legs he shall wash with water.  And the priest shall offer up in smoke all of it on the altar for a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.
Leviticus 1:9,13

This is the law of the sin offering: in the place where the burnt offering is slain the sin offering shall be slain before the LORD; it is most holy.  The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it.  It shall be eaten in a holy place, in the court of the tent of meeting.  Anyone who touches its flesh shall become consecrated; and when any of its blood splashes on a garment, in a holy place you shall wash what was splashed on.  Also the earthenware vessel in which it was boiled shall be broken; and if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, then it shall be scoured and rinsed in water.  Every male among the priests may eat of it; it is most holy.  But no sin offering of which any of the blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the holy place shall be eaten; it shall be burned with fire.  (Cf. 4:1-5:13 where there were two types of sin offerings:  The first was for the sins of the anointed priest or the entire community as a whole and was not eaten but burned outside the camp; the second was for individuals within the community and was eaten by the priests.)
Leviticus 6:25-30

Jesus is our sin offering, and He is most holy.  The people of God are called a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9) who are to eat his flesh (Jn 6:51-56) in a holy place, i.e., in the kingdom of God where they live by faith.  Moreover, those upon whom His blood is spilt are to wash their garments in the water of the word so as to be holy as He is holy (cf. Rev 7:13-15, 15:16, 19:8,14, 22:14).  In this way is Christ formed in them, so that the earthenware vessel of their flesh must be broken just like Christ’s (cf. 2 Cor 4:7-15)–they must take up their cross and follow Him “outside the gate” to share in His sufferings so they may also share in His life (cf. Rom 6:1-11, Phil 3:10-11).  And it is in this way that a man cleanses himself so as to no longer be an earthenware vessel of dishonor, but a vessel of honor to be scoured with spiritual water, sanctified and made useful to the Master, prepared for every good work (2 Tim 2:20-21).  But unlike the imperfect sin offering of the old covenant which the priests could not eat, Jesus is the perfect sacrifice of the new covenant.  For although He suffered outside the gate to make atonement in the Holy Place still we have an altar at which to eat and so have communion with our God:

We have an altar, from which those who serve the tabernacle (of the old covenant) have no right to eat.  For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp.  Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Hence, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.  (I.e., let us bear our own cross to the altar of Calvary where we may eat of his sacrifice in true communion with God by coming to know the fellowship of His suffering and being conformed to His death, if somehow we might attain to the resurrection from the dead, cf. 1 Cor 10:18, Phil 3:10-11).)
Hebrews 13:10-13

These you may eat, whatever is in the water: all that have fins and scales, those in the water, in the seas or in the rivers you may eat.  But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers, that do not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you, and they shall be abhorrent to you; you may not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses you shall detest.  Whatever in the water does not have fins and scales is abhorrent to you.
Leviticus 11:9-12

Just as the fins of a fish allow it to navigate smoothly and efficiently in the waters so it is not swept away by them, and as the scales of the fish protect it like armor (cf. 1 Sam 17:5, Ez 29:4) so must the spiritual man eat only of those fish that are not swept here and there by the spiritual currents of the spiritual waters of the world but have girded themselves with the full armor of God so as to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

Now these are to you the unclean among the swarming things which swarm on the earth: the mole, and the mouse, and the great lizard in its kinds, and the gecko, and the crocodile, and the lizard, and the sand reptile, and the chameleon.  These are to you the unclean among all the swarming things; whoever touches them when they are dead becomes unclean until evening.  Also anything on which one of them may fall when they are dead, becomes unclean, including any wooden article, or clothing, or a skin, or a sack–any article of which use is made (representative of the living articles in the large house of the Master that are useful to Him, cf. 2 Tim 2:20-21)–it shall be put in the water and be unclean until evening, then it becomes clean.  As for any earthenware vessel into which one of them may fall, whatever is in it becomes unclean and you shall break the vessel.  Any of the food which may be eaten, on which water comes, shall become unclean; and any liquid which may be drunk in every vessel shall become unclean.  Everything, moreover, on which part of their carcass may fall becomes unclean; an oven or a stove shall be smashed; they are unclean and shall continue as unclean to you.  Nevertheless a spring or a cistern collecting water shall be clean, though the one who touches their carcass shall be unclean.  And if a part of their carcass falls on any seed for sowing which is to be sown, it is clean.  Though if water is put on the seed, and a part of their carcass falls on it, it is unclean to you.
Leviticus 11:29-38

This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing.  Now he shall be brought to the priest, and the priest shall go out to the outside of the camp.  Thus the priest shall look, and if the infection of leprosy has been healed in the leper, then the priest shall give orders to take two live clean birds and cedar wood and a scarlet string and hyssop for the one who is to be cleansed.  The priest shall also give orders to slay one bird (which represents Christ) in an earthenware vessel over living (translated “running”) water (representing that His death in the flesh is according to the divine plan spelled out by His Spirit in the living water of the word; it also represents Christ being crucified in the earthenware vessel of our own flesh as we are united with Him in His death and the living water of His Spirit of holiness is poured out upon us in order that we may also be united with His life, cf. Jn 16:7).  As for the live bird (who represents us, the one who has been spiritually sick with the diseases of sin that destroy our flesh), he shall take it, together with the cedar wood (which represents the cross) and the scarlet string (representing the blood soaked bonds which enslave us to our sins and that bound Christ to the cross) and the hyssop (which was also used to apply the blood of the passover lamb, Ex 12:22, and is thus used as a symbol of spiritual cleansing, cf. Ps 51:7), and shall dip them and the live bird in the blood of the bird that was slain over the living water.  He shall then sprinkle seven times the one who is to be cleansed from the leprosy, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the live bird go free over the open field (as a symbol of the leper being set free on account of the blood of the bird who was slain, namely Christ).  The one to be cleansed shall then wash his clothes and shave off all his hair, and bathe in water and be clean.  Now afterward, he may enter the camp, but he shall stay outside his tent for seven days.  And it shall be on the seventh day that he shall shave off all his hair: he shall then wash his clothes and bathe his body in water and be clean.
Leviticus 14:2-9

If, on the other hand, the priest comes in and makes an inspection, and the mark (of leprosy) has not indeed spread in the house after the house has been replastered, then the priest shall pronounce the house clean because the mark has not reappeared.  To cleanse the house then (representing a house of God, a collective body of believers), he shall take two birds and cedar wood and a scarlet string and hyssop, and he shall slaughter the one bird in an earthenware vessel over running (lit. “living”) water.  Then he shall take the cedar wood and the hyssop and the scarlet string, with the live bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, as well as in the running water (i.e., in the living water of the Spirit and the word), and sprinkle the house seven times.  He shall thus cleanse the house with the blood of the bird and with the running water (for it is the Spirit and the water and the blood that cleanse us, cf. 1 Jn 5:6-8), along with the live bird and with the cedar wood and with the hyssop and with the scarlet sting.  However, he shall let the live bird go free outside the city into the open field.  So he shall make atonement for the house, and it shall be clean.
Leviticus 14:48-53

When any man has a discharge from his body, his discharge is unclean.  This, moreover, shall be his uncleanness in his discharge: it is his uncleanness whether his body allows its discharge to flow, or whether his body obstructs its discharge.  Every bed on which the person with the discharge lies becomes unclean, and everything on which he sits becomes unclean.  Anyone, moreover, who touches his bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening; and whoever sits on the thing on which the man with the discharge has been sitting, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.  Etc….  Likewise, whomever the one with the discharge touches without having rinsed his hands in water shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.  However, an earthenware vessel which the person with the discharge touches shall be broken, and every wooden vessel shall be rinsed in water.
Now when the man with the discharge becomes cleansed from his discharge, then he shall count off for himself seven days for his cleansing; he shall then wash his clothes and bathe his body in running (lit. “living“) water and shall become clean….
Now if a man has a seminal emission, he shall bathe all his body in water and be unclean until evening.  As for any garment or any leather on which there is seminal emission, it shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening.  If a man lies with a woman so that there is a seminal emission, they shall both bathe in water and be unclean until evening.
When a woman has a discharge….etc….
Thus you shall keep the sons of Israel separated from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness by their defiling My tabernacle that is among them.
Leviticus 15:2-6,11-13,16-19,31

Now the LORD spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they had approached the presence of the LORD and died.  And the LORD said to Moses, “Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat.  Aaron shall enter the holy place with this: with a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.  He shall put on the holy linen tunic, and the linen undergarments shall be next to his body, and he shall be girded with the linen sash, and attired with the linen turban (these are holy garments).  Then he shall bathe his body in water and put them on….
Then Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting, and take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there.  And he shall bathe his body with water in a holy place and put on his clothes, and come forth and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.  Then he shall offer up in smoke the fat of the sin offering on the altar.  And the one who released the goat as the scapegoat shall wash his clothes and bathe his body with water; then afterward he shall come into the camp.  But the bull of the sin offering and the goat of the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall be taken outside the camp, and they shall burn their hides, their flesh, and their refuse in the fire.  Then the one who burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his body with water, then afterward he shall come into the camp.
Leviticus 16:1-4,23-28

And when any person eats an animal which dies, or is torn by beasts, whether he is a native or an alien, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean.  But if he does not wash them or bathe his body, then he shall bear his guilt.
Leviticus 17:15-16

Tell Aaron and his sons to be careful with the holy gifts of the sons of Israel (typical of the gifts of the Spirit that are brought from throughout the congregation as spiritual food for the building up of one another and strengthening of the body, cf. 1 Cor 12), which they dedicate to Me, so as not to profane My holy name; I am the LORD.  Say to them, “If any man among all your descendants throughout your generations approaches the holy gifts which the sons of Israel dedicate to the LORD, while he has an uncleanness, that person shall be cut off from before Me.  (As the congregation of the saints who are a royal priesthood come together to partake of the spiritual food of the holy gifts in communion with God, let them come in holiness, sanctified from the impurities of the world and not defiled by its lusts and pleasures.)  I am the LORD.  No man of the descendants of Aaron, who is a leper (typical of the man whose flesh is being destroyed because of sin) or who has a discharge (typical of him whose life is being drained away, again because of sin) may eat of the holy gifts until he is clean.  And if one touches anything made unclean by a corpse (one who is dead in the faith) or if a man has a seminal emission (and so wasted his seed which typifies the word of God‑‑the seed through which Christ is formed in one), or if a man touches any teeming things (which typify the powers of darkness), by which he is made unclean, or any man by whom he is made unclean, whatever his uncleanness; a person who touches any such shall be unclean until evening, and shall not eat of the holy gifts (i.e., join the congregation in the communion of the saints, meaning both the Lord’s supper, cf. 1 Cor 11:28-31, and that communion of sharing in the Lord’s ministry one to another through the gifts of the Spirit‑‑it would be wrong for one so defiled to suppose he was in the right relationship with the Lord to be used in ministry to others), unless he has bathed his flesh in water (the water of the word so as to be sanctified and made holy).  But when the sun sets (on the day of his iniquity), he shall be clean, and afterward he shall eat of the holy gifts, for it is his (spiritual) food.  He shall not eat an animal which dies (typical of the spiritual food from one who is dead in their sins) or is torn by beasts (destroyed by the powers of darkness), becoming unclean by it; I am the LORD.  They shall therefore keep My charge, so that they may not bear sin because of it, and die thereby because they profane it; I am the LORD who sanctifies them.”
Leviticus 22:2-9

If any man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him, and a man has intercourse with her and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband and she is undetected, although she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act, if a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife when she has defiled herself, or if a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife when she has not defiled herself, the man shall then bring his wife to the priest, and shall bring as an offering for her one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall not pour oil on it, nor put frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of memorial, a reminder of iniquity.
Then the priest shall bring her (who is accused of adultery) near and have her stand before the LORD, and the priest shall take holy water (the word of God) in an earthenware (human) vessel; and he shall take some of the dust (the uncleanness of the world) that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.  (Think about this in light of all that follows.)  The priest shall then have the woman stand before the LORD and let the hair of the woman’s head go loose (symbolic of her standing directly before the Lord as opposed to being under the authority of her husband and he being between her and the Lord), and place the grain offering of memorial in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy, and in the hand of the priest is to be the water of bitterness that brings a curse.  And the priest shall have her take an oath and shall say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you and if you have not gone astray into uncleanness ( i.e., if the Bride has not committed adultery against the Bridegroom), being under the authority of your husband, be immune to this water of bitterness that brings a curse; if you, however, have gone astray, being under the authority of your husband, and if you have defiled yourself and a man other than your husband has had intercourse with you (cf. James 4:4)” (then the priest shall have the woman swear with the oath of the curse, and the priest shall say to the woman), “the LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people by the LORD’s making your thigh waste away and your abdomen swell; and this water that brings a curse shall go into your inward parts and make your abdomen swell and your thigh waste away (the curse will make the adulteress unfruitful so she cannot bear children).”  And the woman shall say, “Amen. Amen.”
The priest shall then write these curses on a scroll, and he shall wash them off into the water of bitterness.  Then he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings a curse, so that the water which brings a curse will go into her and cause bitterness.  And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, and he shall wave the grain offering before the LORD and bring it to the altar; and the priest shall take a handful of the grain offering as its memorial offering and offer it up in smoke on the altar, and afterward he shall make the woman drink the water.  When he has made her drink the water, then it shall come about, if she has defiled herself and has been unfaithful to her husband that the water which brings a curse shall go into her and cause bitterness, and her abdomen will swell and her thigh will waste away (she will bear no fruit), and the woman will become a curse among her people.  But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, she will then be free and conceive children (bear the fruit of righteousness without which no one will see God).
Numbers 5:16-28

Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel and cleanse them.  And thus you shall do to them, for their cleansing: sprinkle purifying water (lit. water of sin) on them, and let them use a razor over their whole body (flesh), and wash their clothes, and they shall be clean.
Numbers 8:6-7

This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel that they bring you an unblemished red heifer in which is no defect, and on which a yoke (of slavery to sin) has never been placed.  And you shall give it to Eleazar the priest, and it shall be brought outside the camp and be slaughtered in his presence.  Next Eleazar the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and sprinkle some of its blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times.  Then the heifer shall be burned in his sight; its hide and its flesh and its blood, with its refuse, shall be burned.  And the priest shall take cedar wood and hyssop and scarlet material (again, symbolic of Christ’s suffering on the cross, of which the red heifer is a type), and cast it into the midst of the burning heifer.  The priest shall then wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp, but the priest shall be unclean until evening.  The one who burns it shall also wash his clothes in water and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until evening.  Now a man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and deposit them outside the camp in a clean place, and the congregation of the sons of Israel shall keep it as water to remove impurity; it is purification from sin.  And the one who gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening; and it shall be a perpetual statute to the sons of Israel and to the alien who sojourns among them.”
“The one who touches the corpse of any person shall be unclean for seven days.  That one shall purify himself from uncleanness with the water on the third day and on the seventh day, and then he shall be clean; but if he does not purify himself on the third day and on the seventh day, he shall not be clean.  Anyone who touches a corpse, the body (lit. soul) of a man who has died, and does not purify himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD; and that person shall be cut off from Israel.  Because the water for impurity was not sprinkled on him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is still on him.”  (After “touching” the corpse of Christ, i.e., identifying ourselves with His death and accepting His sacrifice for our sins, let us also identify ourselves with His resurrection on the third day and enter into His rest of the seventh day.  For unless we purify ourselves with the water of the word so as to be raised up with Christ in a newness of life, and lay down the works of our own hands so as to rest in the finished work of Christ then all of our uncleanness will remain upon us.)
“This is the law when a man dies in a tent: everyone who comes into the tent and everyone who is in the tent shall be unclean for seven days.  And every open vessel, which has no covering tied down on it, shall be unclean.  Also, anyone who in the open field touches one who has been slain with a sword or who has died naturally, or a human bone or a grave, shall be unclean for seven days.  Then for the unclean person they shall take some of the ashes of the burnt purification from sin and flowing (lit. “living“) water shall be added to them in a vessel.  And a clean person shall take hyssop and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the tent and on all the furnishings and on the persons who were there, and on the one who touched the bone or the one slain or the one dying naturally or the grave.  Then the clean person shall sprinkle on the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day; and on the seventh day he shall purify him from uncleanness, and he shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and shall be clean by evening.”
“But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself from uncleanness, that person shall be cut off from the midst of the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD; the water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him, he is unclean.  So it shall be a perpetual statute for them.  And he who sprinkles the water for impurity shall wash his clothes, and he who touches the water for impurity shall be unclean until evening.  Furthermore, anything that the unclean person touches shall be unclean; an the person who touches it shall be unclean until evening.”
Numbers 19:2-22

Then the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people stayed at Kadesh.  Now Miriam died there and was buried there.
And there was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves against Moses and Aaron.  The people thus contended with Moses and spoke, saying, “If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the LORD!  Why then have you brought the LORD’s assembly into this wilderness, for us and our beasts to die here?  And why have you made us come up from Egypt, to bring us in to this wretched place?  It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates, nor is there water to drink.”  Then Moses and Aaron came in from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting, and fell on their faces.  Then the glory of the LORD appeared to them; and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock (which is Christ, 1 Cor 10:4) before their eyes (for the rock had already been struck by that rod which is the serpent, cf. Ex 17:5-6), that it may yield its water.  You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink.”  So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him; and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock.  And he said to them, “Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?”  Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice (or perhaps “a second time”) with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank.  But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel (because by striking the rock they were crucifying again the Son of God and treating as unholy the blood of the covenant that sanctifies them), therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them (cf. Heb 6:6, 10:26-29).”  Those were the waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel contended with the LORD, and He proved Himself holy among them.
Numbers 20:1-13

“Please let us pass through your land (the land of Edom).  We shall not pass through field or through vineyard; we shall not even drink water from a well.  We shall go along the king’s highway, not turning to the right or left (which is how we too walk along the King of king’s highway of holiness so as to not drink from the wells of the world), until we pass through your territory.”  Edom, however, said to him. “You shall not pass through us, lest I come out with the sword against you.”  Again, the sons of Israel said to him, “We shall go up by the highway, and if I and my livestock do drink any of your water, then I will pay its price.  Let me only pass through on my feet, nothing else.”
Numbers 20:17-19, cf. 21:22

Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because you rebelled against My command at the waters of Meribah.
Numbers 20:24

Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient because of the journey.  And the people spoke against God and Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness?  For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this miserable food.”  And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
Numbers 21:4-6

From there they continued to Beer, that is the well where the LORD said to Moses, “Assemble the people, that I may give them water.”  Then Israel sang this song: “Spring up, O well!  Sing to it!  The well, which the leaders sank, which the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter and with their staffs.”
Numbers 21:16-18

And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel camping tribe by tribe; and the Spirit of God came upon him.  And he took up his discourse and said, “…How fair are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!  Like valleys that stretch out, like gardens beside the river, like aloes planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters.  Water shall flow from his buckets, and his seed shall be by many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.”
Numbers 24:2-3,6-7

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel.  And when you have seen it, you too shall be gathered your people, as Aaron your brother was; for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.”  (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)
Numbers 27:12-14

Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone to battle, “This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded Moses: only the gold and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin and the lead, everything that can stand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean, but it shall be purified with water for impurity.  But whatever cannot stand the fire you shall pass through the water.  (The fire and the water cleanse the booty of the world and sanctify it for our use.)  And you shall wash your clothes on the seventh day and be clean, and afterward you may enter the camp.”
Numbers 31:21-24

You shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.  For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land where you shall eat food without scarcity, in which you shall not lack anything; a land whose (spiritual) stones are iron, and out of whose (spiritual) hills you can dig copper.  When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.
Deuteronomy 8:6-10

He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He brought water for you out of the rock of flint.  In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end.  Otherwise, you may say in your heart, “My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.”
Deuteronomy 8:15-17

When I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD had made with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water….And I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands, and smashed them before your eyes.  And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the LORD to provoke Him to anger.
Deuteronomy 9:9,17-18

And know this day that I am not speaking with your sons who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of the LORD your God–…what He did to Egypt’s army, to its horses and its chariots, when He made the water of the Red Sea to engulf them while they were pursuing you, and the LORD completely destroyed them.
Deuteronomy 11:2,4

You shall therefore keep every commandment which I am commanding you today, so that you may be strong and go in and possess the land (the kingdom of God) into which you are about to cross to possess it; so that you may prolong your days on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give to them and to their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey (spiritual blessings).  For the land, into which you are entering to possess it, is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, where you used to sow your seed and water it with your foot like a vegetable garden.  But the land into which you are about to cross to possess it, a land of hills and valleys, drinks water from the rain of heaven (for the kingdom of God is well watered by the Spirit of God), a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning even to the end of the year.
Deuteronomy 11:8-12

You shall not eat the blood; you are to pour it out on the ground like water.
Deuteronomy 12:16,24, 15:23

Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho, and look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel for a possession.  Then die on the mountain where you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, because you broke faith with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because you did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel.  For you shall see the land at a distance, but you shall not go there, into the land which I am giving the sons of Israel.
Deuteronomy 32:49-52

And of Levi he said, “Let Thy Thummim and Thy Urim belong to Thy godly man, whom Thou didst prove at Massah, with whom Thou didst contend at the waters of Meribah; who said of his father and his mother, ‘I did not consider them’; and he did not acknowledge his brothers, nor did he regard his own sons, for they observed Thy word, and kept Thy covenant.”
Deuteronomy 33:8-9

Now the LORD said to Joshua (who is a type of Jesus), “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you.  You shall, moreover, command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.'”  Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, “Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God.”  And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will assuredly dispossess from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.  Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth is crossing over ahead of you into the Jordan.  Now then, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man for each tribe.  And it shall come about when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, and the waters which are flowing down from above shall stand in one heap.”
So it came about when the people set out from their tents to cross the Jordan with the priests carrying the ark of the covenant before the people, and when those who carried the ark came into the Jordan, and the feet of the priests carrying the ark were dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks all the days of harvest), that the waters which were flowing down from above stood and rose up in one heap, a great distance away at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those which were flowing down toward the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off.  So the people crossed opposite Jericho.  And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground, until all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan.
Now it came about when all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan, that the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying, “Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and command them, saying, ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet are standing firm, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place where you will lodge tonight.'”  So Joshua (Jesus) called the twelve men (apostles) whom he had appointed (chosen) from the sons of Israel, one man from each tribe; and Joshua said to them, “Cross before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel.  Let this be a sign among you, so that when your children ask later, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ then you shall say to them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’  So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.”
And thus the sons of Israel did, as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the LORD spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the lodging place, and put them there.  Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan at the place where the feet of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing, and they are there to this day….On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; so that they feared him, just as they had feared Moses all the days of his life.
Now the LORD said to Joshua, “Command the priests who carry the ark of the testimony that they come up from the Jordan.”  So Joshua commanded the priests, saying, “Come up from the Jordan.”  And it came about when the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up from the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were drawn out to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks as before.
Now the people came up from the Jordan on the tenth of the first month (the day the passover lamb was selected, Ex 12:3; notice it was on this day that Joshua, who is a type of Christ our passover lamb, was exalted by the LORD) and camped at Gilgal on eastern edge of Jericho.  And those twelve stones which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal (that lodging place where they stayed upon first entering the land of their inheritance, where the sons of Israel were circumcised and they first observed the passover in the land of promise, see Joshua 5).  And he said to the sons of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ then you shall inform your children, saying, ‘Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.’  For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the LORD our God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed; that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, so that you may fear the LORD your God forever.”  (In the same way are the twelve living stones of Christ’s apostles a testimony to all generations of how the Lord delivers His people through the midst of the flooding waters of the world on dry ground to enter and possess the land of their inheritance in the kingdom of God.)
Joshua 3:7-4:9,14-24

About three thousand men from the people went up there (to Ai), but they fled from the men of Ai.  And the men of Ai struck down about thirty-six of their men, and pursued them from the gate as far as Shebarim, and struck them down on the descent, so the hearts of the people melted and became as water.
Joshua 7:4-5

They (the Gibeonites who had deceived the Israelites into making a covenant of peace with them) became hewers of wood and drawers of water for the whole congregation….Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of the LORD, to this day, in the place which He would choose.
Joshua 9:21,27, cf. vs 23

And Caleb said, “The one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him Achsah my daughter as a wife.”  And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it; so he have him Achsah his daughter as a wife.  And it came about that when she came to him, she persuaded him to ask her father for a field.  So she alighted from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”  Then she said, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water.”  So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
Joshua 15:16-19, Judges 1:12-15

Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, “Turn aside, my master, turn aside to me!  Do not be afraid.”  And he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.  And he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink for I am thirsty.”  So she opened a bottle of milk and gave him a drink; then she covered him.  And he said to her, “Stand in the doorway of the tent, and it shall be if anyone comes and inquires of you, and says, ‘Is there anyone here?’ that you shall say, ‘No.'”  But Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and seized a hammer in her hand, and went secretly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went through into the ground; for he was sound asleep and exhausted.  So he died.
Judges 4:18-21

Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying, “…LORD, when Thou didst go out from Seir, when Thou didst march from the field of Edom, the earth quaked, the heavens also dripped, even the clouds dripped water.…”  (In this way are we able to defeat the powers of darkness and take possession of the land of our inheritance–by the rain of the Holy Spirit.)
Judges 5:1,4

The kings came and fought; then fought the kings of Canaan at Taanach (the Hebrew name for the Bible) near the waters of Megiddo; they took no plunder in silver.  The stars fought from heaven, from their courses they fought against Sisera.  The torrent of Kishon swept them away, the ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon.  O my soul, march on with strength.
Judges 5:19-21

Then Gideon said to God, “If Thou wilt deliver Israel through me, as Thou hast spoken, behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor.  If there is dew (the early morning water from heaven which represents the Holy Spirit) on the fleece (of Christ our passover lamb) only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I will know that Thou wilt deliver Israel through me, as Thou hast spoken.”  And it was so.  When he arose early the next morning and squeezed the fleece, he drained the dew from the fleece, a bowl full of water (for Christ was bathed in the Spirit).  Then Gideon said to God, “Do not let Thine anger burn against me that I may speak once more; please let me make a test once more with the fleece, let it now be dry only on the fleece, and let there be dew on all the ground.”  And God did so that night; for it was dry only on the fleece, and dew was on all the ground (Christ was crucified so that all of us might receive of that dew of His Spirit).
Judges 6:36-40

Then the LORD said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water (the spring of Harod) and I will test them for you there.  Therefore it shall be that he of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”  So he brought the people down to the water.  And the LORD said to Gideon, “You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink.”  Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled (on their knees) to drink water.  And the LORD said to Gideon, “I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give the Midianites into your hands; so let all the other people go, each man to his home.”
Judges 7:4-7

Then Samson (after having killed a thousand men with the jawbone of a donkey) became very thirsty, and he called to the LORD and said, “Thou hast given this great deliverance by the hand of Thy servant, and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”  But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi so that water came out of it.  When he drank, his strength returned and he revived.  Therefore, he named it En-hakkore (i.e., the spring of him who called), which is in Lehi to this day.
Judges 15:18-19

Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the LORD with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the LORD and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”  So the sons of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth and served the LORD alone.
Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD for you.”  And they gathered to Mizpah, and drew water and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the LORD.”  And Samuel judged the sons of Israel at Mizpah.
1 Samuel 7:3-6

Now they found an Egyptian in the field (as they were pursuing the Amalekites who had just raided the city of Ziklag where David had been staying) and brought him to David, and gave him bread and he ate, and they provided him water to drink.  And they gave him a piece of fig cake and two clusters of raisins, and he ate; then his spirit returned to him.  For he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.
1 Samuel 30:11-12

So David came to Baal-perazim, and defeated the Philistines there; and he said, “The LORD has broken through my enemies before me like the breakthrough of waters.”  Therefore he named that place Baal-perazim (i.e., Lord of the breakthrough).
2 Samuel 5:20

For we shall surely die and are like water spilled on the ground which cannot be gathered up again (for just like water spilled on the ground is our spirit in the day of our death).  Yet God does not take away life, but plans ways so that the banished one may not be cast out from Him.
2 Samuel 14:14

And David spoke the words of this song to the LORD in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.  And he said,…I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.  For the waves of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me; the cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me….And He rode on a cherub and flew; and He appeared on the wings of the wind.  And He made darkness canopies around Him, a mass of waters, thick clouds of the sky….Then the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were laid bare, by the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of His nostrils.  He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.  He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
2 Samuel 22:1,4‑6,11‑12,16-18

Then three of the thirty chief men went down and came to David in the harvest time to the cave of Adullam, while the troop of the Philistines was camping in the valley of Rephaim.  And David was then in the stronghold, while the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.  And David had a craving and said, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate!”  So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water from the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David.  Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD; and he said, “Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this.  Shall I drink the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives?”  Therefore he would not drink it.  These things the three mighty men did.  (In the same way let us not claim for ourselves but pour out before the Lord that spiritual water of the mighty men of the faith which was obtained by their own blood.)
2 Samuel 23:13-17

Now behold, there came a man of God from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, while Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense (the altar which Jeroboam had just recently made, along with the two golden calves so that the people of the newly formed northern kingdom would not go to Judah to worship; the time was the 15th day of the eighth month which he had also established as a feast to rival the Lord’s feast of Tabernacles on the 15th of the seventh month.  In the same way today a large contingent of God’s people has broken away in rebellion from God’s kingdom of righteousness and established an image of the beast to be their god, declaring it to be the god that led them out of

Egypt, the spiritual land of bondage to sin.).  And he cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, “O altar, altar, thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name, and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and human bones shall be burned on you.'”  Then he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the LORD has spoken, ‘Behold, the altar shall be split apart and the ashes which are on it shall be poured out.'”  Now it came about when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, that Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him.”  But his hand which he stretched out against him dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself.  The altar also was split apart and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.  And the king answered and said to the man of God, “Please entreat the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.”  So the man of God entreated the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.  Then the king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”  But the man of God said to the king, “If you were to give me half your house I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place (for such would be to share in the table of demons rather than in the table of the Lord).  For so it was commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way which you came.'”  So he went another way, and did not return by the way which he came to Bethel.
Now an old prophet was living in Bethel;…and he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”  And he said, “I cannot return with you, nor go with you nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place.  For a command came to me by the word of the LORD, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water there; do not return by going the way which you came.'”  And he said to him, “I also am a prophet like you (a false prophet), and an angel (a fallen angel masquerading as an angel of light) spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'”  But he lied to him.  (In the very same way do the false prophets of our own day tempt us to join them at the table of demons, eating of their spiritual food of perverted doctrines.)  So he went back with him (the way which he had just came, in disobedience to the Lord’s command), and ate bread in his house and drank water.
Now it came about, as they were sitting down at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back; and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah (in the same way that the false prophets of our own day cry out in hypocrisy against those who disobey the word of the Lord), saying, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because you have disobeyed the command of the LORD, and have not observed the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you, but have returned and eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which He said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water“; your body shall not come to the grave of your fathers.'”  And it came about after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, for the prophet whom he had brought back.  Now when he had gone, a lion (Satan, the instrument of God’s wrath and indignation) met him on the way and killed him, and his body was thrown on the road, with the donkey standing beside it; the lion also was standing beside the body.  And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the road, and the lion standing beside the body; so they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
Now when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard it, he said, “It is the man of God, who disobeyed the command of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion (as He does to all who disobey His commands), which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke to him.”  Then he spoke to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me.”  And they saddled it.  And he went and found his body thrown on the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside the body; the lion had not eaten the body nor torn the donkey (for although the Lord acted in judgement against the disobedience of the prophet, still He did not allow the lion to devour him, cf. 1 Pet 5:8).  So the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back and he came to the city of the old prophet to mourn and to bury him.  And he laid his body in his own grave, and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”  And it came about after he had buried him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.  For the thing shall surely come to pass which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria.”
1 Kings 13:1-32

And Ahab called Obadiah who was over the household.  (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly; for it came about, when Jezebel destroyed the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave, and provided them with bread and water.)
1 Kings 18:3-4

Then Elijah arranged the wood and cut the ox in pieces and laid it on the wood.  And he said, “Fill four pitchers with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.”  And he said, “Do it a second time,” and they did it a second time.  And he said, “Do it a third time,” and they did it a third time..  And the water flowed around the altar, and he also filled the trench with water….Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
1 Kings 18:33-35,38

And Elijah lay down and slept under a juniper tree, and behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat.”  Then he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water.  So he ate and drank and lay down again.  And the angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.”  So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.
1 Kings 19:5-8

And Elijah took his mantle (the garment of salvation, Christ Himself whom we are commanded to put on) and folded it together and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground….And Elisha took up the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters and said, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?”  And when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha crossed over.
2 Kings 2:8,14

Then the men of the city (Jericho) said to Elisha, “Behold now, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land is unfruitful (lit. causes barrenness).”  And he said, “Bring me a new jar (representing the new covenant), and put salt in it.”  So they brought it to him.  And he went out to the spring of water, and threw salt in it and said, “Thus says the LORD, ‘I have purified (lit. healed) these waters; there shall not be from there death or unfruitfulness (barrenness) any longer.'”  So the waters have been purified (healed) to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.  (Cf. Lev 2:13, Num 18:19, 2 Chron 13:5, Ez 43:24.  It is our covenant with God that purifies the waters so they will be sweet to drink and make our land of inheritance fruitful in righteousness; cf. again Ex 15:25-26.)
2 Kings 2:19-22

The king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days’ journey, and there was no water for the army or for the cattle that followed them.  Then the king of Israel (Jehoram) said, “Alas! For the LORD has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.”  But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?”  And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who used to pour water on the hands of Elijah.”…And he (Elisha) said, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’  For thus says the Lord, ‘You shall not see wind nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, both you and your cattle and your beasts.  And this is but a slight thing in the sight of the LORD; He shall also give the Moabites into your hand.  Then you shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and fell every good tree (of the field so there will be no fruit) and stop all springs of water (all the fountains of life shall be cut off from God’s enemies), and mar every good piece of land with stones (so the land will no longer be fruitful; in the same way do the powers of darkness come against all God’s enemies today to destroy them).'”  And it happened in the morning about the time of offering the sacrifice, that behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
Now all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them.  And all who were able to put on armor and older were summoned, and stood on the border.  And they rose early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood.  Then they said, “This is blood; the kings have surely fought together, and they have slain one another.  Now therefore, Moab, to the spoil!”  But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites arose and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them, and they went forward into the land, slaughtering the Moabites.  (In the same way when the Sun shines on the water of the Word to reveal the joining of the saints with Christ in His death are our enemies deceived to believe the victory is theirs; but in fact, God is preparing through this union the victory for His people, even as He did for His Son through His own death on the cross.)  Thus they destroyed the cities; and each one threw a stone on every piece of good land and filled it.  So they stopped all the springs of water and felled all the good trees, until in Kir-hareseth only they left its stones; however, the slingers went about it and struck it.  When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him 700 men who drew swords, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.  Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place, and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall.  And there came great wrath against Israel (for truly the battle is spiritual, and Israel in its weakened spiritual state was no match for those powers of darkness invoked by such a sacrifice of a pagan; the Moabites also would have been moved to great fury against Israel seeing them as the cause of the sacrifice of their crown prince), and they departed from him and returned to their own land.
2 Kings 3:9-11,16-27

Naaman came with his horses and his chariots, and stood at the doorway of the house of Elisha.  And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan (the spiritual waters of the people of God) seven times (the number of completeness, i.e., the word of God heals us when we wash ourselves completely and fully in it), and your flesh shall be restored to you and you shall be clean.”  But Naaman was furious and went away and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and cure the leper.’  Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel?  Could I not wash in them and be clean?”  (The answer to his question is no, the polluted spiritual waters of the pagan nations cannot heal nor save; only the spiritual waters of the true sons of Israel can heal and save.)  So he turned and went away in a rage.  Then his servants came near and spoke to him and said, “My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing (some work of the flesh), would you not have done it?  How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean (i.e., simply trust and obey, for salvation and healing is only by grace through faith, not as the result of our works)’?”  So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child (in innocence and purity), and he was clean.
2 Kings 5:9-14

Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “Behold now, the place before you where we are living is too limited for us.  Please let us go to the Jordan, and each of us take from there a beam, and let us make a place there for ourselves where we may live.”  So he said, “Go.”  Then one said, “Please be willing to go with your servants.”  And he answered, “I shall go.”  So he went with them; and when they came to the Jordan they cut down trees.  But as one was felling a beam, The axe head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, my master!  For it was borrowed.”  Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?”  And when he showed him the place, he cut off a stick, and threw it in there, and made the iron float.  And he said, “Take it up for yourself.”  So he put out his hand and took it.  (This passage teaches us how the valuable things of the world are not lost in the spiritual waters of the truth, but rather, through that stick of the cross they are truly found.)
2 Kings 6:1-7

And it came about when they (Elisha, who was leading the blinded army of the Arameans) had come into Samaria, that Elisha said, “O LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see.”  So the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.  Then the king of Israel when he saw them, said to Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them?  Shall I kill them?”  And he answered, “You shall not kill them.  Would you kill those you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow?  Set (spiritual) bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.”  So he prepared a great feast for them; and when they had eaten and drunk he sent them away, and they went to their master.  And the marauding bands of Arameans did not come again into the land of Israel.
2 Kings 6:20-23

Then Elisha came to Damascus.  Now Ben-hadad king of Aram was sick, and it was told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.”  And the king said to Hazael, “Take a gift in your hand and go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD by him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?'”  …Then Elisha said to him, “Go, say to him, ‘You shall surely recover,’ but the LORD has shown me that he will certainly die.”  …So he departed from Elisha and returned to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?”  And he answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.”  And it came about on the morrow, that he took the cover and dipped it in water and spread it on his face, so that he died.  And Hazael became king in his place.
2 Kings 8:7-8,10,14-15

Rabshakeh (the servant of the king of Assyria, who is a type of Satan) said to them, “Has my master sent me only to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, doomed to eat their own dung and drink the water of their feet (i.e., their urine) with you?…Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, ‘Make your peace with me and come out to me, and eat each of his vine (instead of the Lord’s) and each of his fig tree (instead of the Lord’s) and drink each of the waters of his own cistern (instead of the Lord’s), until I come and take you away to a land like your own land (a counterfeit of God’s kingdom), a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey (the false fruit of the flesh that is a counterfeit of the fruit of the Spirit), that you may live and not die.’  But do not listen to Hezekiah, when he misleads you, saying, ‘The LORD will deliver us.'”  (In the same way does Satan lie to us today, subtly mocking the word of God as dung and urine that can not give us life and promising us instead blessings if we will but disobey the King and come over to him.
2 Kings 18:27,31-32

This is the word that the LORD has spoken against Sennacherib king of Assyria:…Through your messengers you have reproached the Lord, and you have said, “With my many chariots I came up to the heights of the mountains, to the remotest parts of Lebanon; and I cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypresses.  And I entered its farthest lodging place, its thickest forest.  I dug wells and drank foreign waters, and with the sole of my feet I dried up all the rivers of Egypt.”
2 Kings 19:21,23-24

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made the pool and the conduit, and brought water into the city (so does every godly king provide water for the spiritual city of God), are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
2 Kings 20:20

And thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah; and he did what was good, right, and true before the LORD his God.  And every work which he began in the service of the house of God in law and in commandment, seeking his God, he did with all his heart and prospered.
After these acts of faithfulness Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah and besieged the fortified cities and thought to break into them for himself.  Now when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he intended to make war on Jerusalem, he decided with his officers and his warriors to cut off the supply of water from the springs which were outside the city and they helped him.  So many people assembled and stopped up all the springs and the stream which flowed in the midst of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find abundant water?”  (In the same way does the Godly King Jesus stop up the spiritual waters in the day of spiritual warfare when the enemies of the cross come to assail the holy city of God.  In this way, lacking the wisdom of the spiritual water of the word so that they faint with thirst and cannot discern their error, they are given over to believe a lie so that they perish unsuccessful in their campaign against the truth.  Surely we are living in such a day now when all the water outside of the city has been stopped up and only those who abide within the walls of the spiritual Jerusalem are able to find water to drink.)  …It was Hezekiah who stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them to the west side of the city of David.  And Hezekiah prospered in all that he did.
2 Chronicles 31:20-32:4, 32:30

Ezra did not eat bread, nor drink water, for he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
Ezra 10:6

And Thou didst divide the sea before them, so they passed through the midst of the sea on dry ground; and their pursuers Thou didst hurl into the depths, like a stone into raging waters.  And with a pillar of cloud Thou didst lead them by day, and with a pillar of fire by night to light for them the way in which they were to go (a type of the word of God that in the spiritual day is a source of spiritual rain and water for the people, but in the spiritual night is a consuming fire of judgement to also lead the people in the right way; notice the very next verses show the relationship between the pillar of cloud/fire and the word of God).  Then Thou didst come down on Mount Sinai, and didst speak with them from heaven; Thou didst give to them just ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments.  So Thou didst make known to them Thy holy Sabbath, and didst lay down for them commandments, statutes, and law, through Thy servant Moses.  (Now notice that Nehemiah changes metaphors yet again while continuing to speak of the same thing:)  Thou didst provide bread from heaven for them for their hunger, Thou didst bring forth water from a rock for them for their thirst, and Thou didst tell them to enter in order to possess the land which Thou didst swear to give them….Thou, in Thy great compassion, didst not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not leave them by day, to guide them on their way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go.  And Thou didst give Thy good Spirit to instruct them, Thy manna Thou didst not withhold from their mouth, and Thou didst give them water for their thirst.  Indeed, forty years Thou didst provide for them in the wilderness and they were not in want; their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell.
Nehemiah 9:11-15,19-21

On that day they read aloud from the book of Moses in the hearing of the people; and there was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite (who as the descendants of Lot were near relatives in the flesh to the Israelites) should ever enter the assembly of God, because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them.  However, our God turned the curse into a blessing.
Nehemiah 13:1-2

For my (Job’s) groaning comes at the sight of my food, and my cries pour out like water.
Job 3:24

But as for me (Eliphaz the Temanite), I would seek God, and I would place my cause before God; who does great and unsearchable things, wonders without number.  He gives rain on the earth, and sends water on the fields, so that He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.
Job 5:8-11

(Bildad the Shuhite:)  Can the papyrus grow up without marsh?  Can the rushes grow without water?  While it is still green and not cut down, yet it withers before any other plant.  So are the paths of all who forget God, and the hope of the godless will perish, whose confidence is fragile, and whose trust a spider’s web.
Job 8:11-14

(Zophar the Naamathite:)  If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away, and do not let wickedness dwell in your tents.  Then, indeed, you could lift up your face without moral defect, and you would be steadfast and not fear.  For you would forget your trouble; as waters that have passed by, you would remember it.
Job 11:14-16

Behold, He restrains the waters, and they dry up; and He sends them out, and they inundate the earth.
Job 12:15

For there is hope for a tree (of righteousness, a planting of the Lord), when it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and its shoots will not fail.  Though its roots grow old in the ground, and its stump dies in the dry soil, at the scent of water it will flourish and put forth sprigs like a plant.  But (a carnal, fleshly) man dies and lies prostrate.  Man expires, and where is he?  As water evaporates from the sea, and a river becomes parched and dried up, so (this fleshly) man lies down and does not rise.  Until the heavens be no more, he will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.
Job 14:7-12

But the falling mountain crumbles away, and the rock moves from its place; water wears away stones, its torrents wash away the dust of the earth; so Thou dost destroy man’s hope.  Thou dost forever overpower him and he departs; Thou dost change his appearance and send him away.
Job 14:18-20

(Eliphaz the Temanite:)  What is man, that he should be pure, or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?  Behold, He puts no trust in His holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in His sight; how much less one who is detestable and corrupt, man, who drinks iniquity like water!
Job 15:14-16

(Eliphaz the Temanite:)  Is not your wickedness great, and your iniquities without end?  For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause, and stripped men naked.  To the weary you have given no water to drink, and from the hungry you have withheld bread.  But the earth belongs to the mighty man, and the honorable man dwells in it.  You have sent widows away empty, and the strength of the orphans has been crushed.  Therefore snares surround you, and sudden dread terrifies you, or darkness, so that you cannot see, and an abundance of water covers you….Will you keep to the ancient path which wicked men have trod, who were snatched away before their time, whose foundations were washed away by a river?
Job 22:5-11,15-16

They (the wicked) are insignificant on the surface of the water; their portion is cursed on the earth.  They do not turn to the path of the vineyards (where they would learn from the good teaching of the wine of the word of God).  Drought and heat seize the snow waters, so does Sheol those who have sinned.
Job 24:18-19

The departed spirits tremble under the waters and their inhabitants.  Naked is Sheol before Him and Abaddon has no covering.  He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing.  He wraps up the waters in His clouds; and the cloud does not burst under them.  He obscures the face of the full moon, and spreads His cloud over it.  He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters, at the boundary of light and darkness.  The pillars of heaven tremble, and are amazed at His rebuke.  He quieted the sea with His power, and by His understanding He shattered Rahab.  By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.  Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; and how faint a word we hear of Him!  But His mighty thunder, who can understand?”
Job 26:5-14

Terrors overtake him (the wicked man) like a flood (lit. waters); a tempest steals him away in the night.  The east wind carries him away, and he is gone, for it whirls him away from his place.  (Here is the true nature of the rapture so many await.)
Job 27:20-21

God understands its way (the way of wisdom); and He knows its place.  For He looks to the ends of the earth, and sees everything under the heavens.  When He imparted weight to the wind, and meted out the waters by measure, when he set a limit for the rain, and a course for the thunderbolt, then He saw it and declared it; He established it and also searched it out.  And to man He said, “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.“
Job 28:23-28

I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the orphan who had no helper.  The blessing of the one ready to perish came upon me, and I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.  I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.  I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.  I was a father to the needy, and I investigated the case which I did not know.  And a broke the jaws of the wicked, and snatched the prey from his teeth.  Then I thought, “I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.  My root is spread out to the waters, and dew lies all night on my branch.  My glory is ever new with me, and my bow is renewed in my hand.”
To me they listened and waited, and kept silent for my counsel.  After my words they did not speak again, and my speech dropped on them.  And they waited for me as for the rain, and opened their mouth for me as for the spring rain.
Job 29:12-23

Job 34:7

Behold, God is exalted, and we do not know Him; the number of His years is unsearchable.  For He draws up the drops of water, they distill rain from the mist, which the clouds pour down, they drip upon man abundantly.  Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, the thundering of His pavilion?  Behold, He spreads His lightning about Him, and He covers the depths of the sea.  For by these He judges peoples; He gives food in abundance.  He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.  The noise declares His presence; the cattle also, concerning what is coming up.
Job 36:26-33

God thunders with His voice wondrously, doing great things which we cannot comprehend.  For to the snow He says, “Fall on the earth,” and to the shower of rain and shower of rains, “Be strong.”  He seals the hand of every man, that all men may know His work.  Then the beast goes into its lair, and remains in its den.  Out of the south comes the storm, and out of the north the cold.  From the breath of God ice is made, and the expanse of the waters is frozen.  Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud; He disperses the cloud of His lightning.  And it changes direction, turning around by His guidance, on the face of the inhabited earth.  Whether for correction, or for His world, or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.
Job 37:5-13

(God:)  Who has cleft a channel for the flood, or a way for the thunderbolt; to bring rain on a land without people, on a desert without a man in it, to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the seeds of grass to sprout?  Has the rain a father?  Or who has begotten the drops of dew?  From whose womb has come the ice?  And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth?  Water hides itself like stone (modern translation = becomes hard like stone), and the surface of the deep is imprisoned….Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that an abundance of water may cover you?

He (the righteous man) will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.

Thou dost visit the earth, and cause it to overflow; thou dost greatly enrich it; the stream of God is full of (spiritual) water; Thou dost prepare their (spiritual) grain (which is the fruit of righteousness), for thus Thou dost prepare the earth.  Thou dost water its furrows abundantly (with the Spirit); Thou dost settle its ridges; Thou dost soften it with showers; Thou dost bless its growth.  Thou hast crowned the year with Thy bounty, and Thy paths drip with fatness.  The pastures of the wilderness (where the spiritual plantings of the Lord dwell) drip, and the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.  The meadows are clothed with flocks, and the valleys are covered with grain; they shout for joy, yes, they sing (because the land is so fruitful, and this because the stream of God is full of water; O Lord, fill that stream with water for us, that our land might also be fruitful and we rejoice and sing for gladness).
Psalm 65:5-13

Thou hast tried us, O God; Thou hast refined us as silver is refined.  Thou didst bring us into the net (of the powers of darkness); Thou didst lay an oppressive burden upon our loins.  Thou didst make men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet Thou didst bring us out into a place of abundance.

Save me, O God, for the waters have threatened my life.  I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.  I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; my eyes fail while I wait for my God.  Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; those who would destroy me are powerful; what I did not steal, I then have to restore….Deliver me from the mire, and do not let me sink; may I be delivered from my foes, and from the deep waters.  May the flood of water not overflow me, and may the deep not swallow me up, and may the pit not shut its mouth on me.
Psalm 69:1-4,14-15

They (the wicked) mock, and wickedly speak of oppression; they speak from on high.  They have set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue parades through the earth.  Therefore his people return to this place; and waters of abundance are drained out by them.
Psalm 73:8-10

Thou didst divide the sea by Thy strength; Thou didst break the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.  Thou didst crush the heads of Leviathan; Thou didst give him as food for the creatures (lit. people) of the wilderness (Leviathan is a type of antichrist whose flesh is given as food to the false sons even as Jesus gave His flesh for the true sons, cf. Jn 6:53-57).  Thou didst break open springs and torrents; Thou didst dry up ever-flowing streams.
Psalm 74:13-15

The waters saw Thee, O God; the waters saw Thee, they were in anguish; the deeps also trembled.  The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth a sound; the arrows flashed here and there.  The sound of Thy thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.  Thy way was in the sea, and Thy paths in the mighty waters, and Thy footprints may not be know.  Thou didst lead Thy people like a flock, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
Psalm 77:16-20

He wrought wonders before their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.  He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and He made the waters stand up like a heap.  Then He led them with the cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.  He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them abundant drink like the ocean depths.  He brought forth streams also from the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.  Yet they still continued to sin against Him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.  And in their heart they put God to the test by asking food (to please their flesh) according to their desire.  Then they spoke against God; they said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?  Behold, He struck the rock, so that waters gushed out and streams were overflowing; can He give bread also?  Will He provide flesh for His people?”
Psalm 78:12-20

O GOD, the nations (the harlot churches) have invaded Thine inheritance, they have defiled Thy holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.  They have given the dead bodies of Thy servants for food to the birds of the heavens, the flesh of Thy godly ones to the beasts of the earth (the powers of darkness, just as the harlot church does to all of God’s people who give her an entrance into their city).  They have poured out their blood like water round about Jerusalem; and there was no one to bury them.

You called in trouble, and I rescued you; I answered you in the hiding place of thunder; I proved you at the waters of Meribah.
Psalm 81:7

Thou hast put me in the lowest pit, in dark places, in the depths.  Thy wrath has rested upon me, and Thou hast afflicted me with all Thy waves….Thy burning anger has passed over me; Thy terrors have destroyed me.  They have surrounded me like water all day long; they have encompassed me altogether.  Thou hast removed lover and friend far from me; my acquaintances are in darkness.

He established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not totter forever and ever.  Thou didst cover it with the deep as with a garment; the waters were standing above the mountains.  At Thy rebuke they fled; at the sound of Thy thunder they hurried away.  The mountains rose; the valleys sank down to the place which Thou didst establish for them.  Thou didst set a boundary that they may not pass over; that they may not return to cover the earth.
He sends forth springs in the valleys; they flow between the mountains; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.  Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they lift up their voices among the branches.  He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and vegetation for the labor of man, so that he may bring forth food from the earth, and wine which makes man’s heart glad, so that he may make his face glisten with oil, and food which sustains man’s heart.  The trees of the LORD drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which He planted, where the birds build their nests, and the stork, whose home is the fir trees.

He changes (spiritual) rivers into a wilderness, and (spiritual) springs of water into a thirsty ground; a fruitful land into a salt waste (a desolation), because of the wickedness (abominations) of those who dwell in it.  He changes a wilderness into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water; and there He makes the hungry to dwell (blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness!), so that they may establish an inhabited city (built by God), and sow fields, and plant vineyards, and gather a fruitful harvest (of righteousness).  Also He blesses them and they multiply greatly; and He does not let their cattle decrease.

Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem!  Praise your God, O Zion!  For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your sons within you.  He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat (spiritual food).  He sends forth His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly.  He gives snow like wool; he scatters the frost like ashes.  He casts forth His ice as fragments; who can stand before His cold?  He sends forth His word and melts them (the icy cold snow of His commands); He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow.  He declares His words to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel.  He has not dealt thus with any nation; and as for His ordinances, they have not known them.  Praise the LORD!
Psalm 147:12-20

Consider that water has three states: solid as in snow and ice, liquid as in rain and rivers and seas, and gas as in clouds and vapors.  If water represents the word of God then perhaps the three states of water teach us something about the nature of the word of God.  Certainly water is the very life source of the planet, even as the word of God is to our souls.  Just as water can freeze into ice and hailstones and be very hard and cold and unpleasant, so too can the word of God to those who see it only as a list of commandments to obey or rules to follow.  Surely the law is a hard thing that beats us over the head and will destroy us as giant hailstones if we try to be perfected after it.  As it is, God sent forth His word in the New Covenant to melt that snow and ice; the wind of His Spirit blew and the waters of the word flowed from the mouth of our Lord Jesus to bring us life:  The Son shone down to melt those snow waters of the law so they might water our dry thirsty ground and the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who no longer live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  In this way does spring come to the winter of our souls as He begins to make our land fruitful.

Then there is the form of water as a gas, the water that comes in the clouds.  Jesus said He was coming in the clouds with power and great glory, and “The LORD was pleased for His righteousness’ sake to make the law great and glorious” (Is 42:21).  Jesus comes to us in His word even as the rain comes to us in the clouds: “So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD.  His going forth is as certain as the dawn; and He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth” (Hos 6:3).  As the vapors of a cloud are as a breath of wind, so is the Spirit of Christ the wind of His breath which He breaths forth upon the earth to bring the rain of His word to water it and make His plantings grow.

Praise the LORD!  Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise Him in the heights!  Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts!  Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all stars of light!  Praise Him, highest heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens!  Let them praise the name of the LORD, for He commanded and they were created.  He has also established them forever and ever; He has made a decree which will not pass away.
Psalm 148:1-6

Drink water from your own cistern (a cistern is for storing water for a time of drought; let us then be careful to always keep our cisterns full), and fresh water from your own well.  Should your springs be despersed abroad, streams of water in the streets?  Let them be yours alone, and not for strangers with you.  Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth.
Proverbs 5:15-18

The LORD possessed me (Wisdom) at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.  From everlasting I was established, from the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.  When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.  Before the mountains were settled, before the hills I was brought forth; while He had not yet made the earth and the fields, nor the first dust of the world.  When he established the heavens, I was there. when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep, when He made firm the skies above, when the springs of the deep became fixed, when He set for the sea its boundary, so that the water should not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth; then I was beside Him, as a master workman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in the world, His earth, and having my delight in the sons of men.
Proverbs 8:22-31

The woman of folly (the foolish virgins, the adulteress, the harlot, the false prophets of the false church) is boisterous, she is naive, and knows nothing.  And she sits at the doorway of her house, on a seat by the high (spiritual) places of the city, calling to those who pass by, who are making their paths straight: “Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,” and to him who lacks understanding she says, “Stolen water is sweet; and bread eaten in secret is pleasant” (cf. Ps 50:16-21; the harlot church steals the word of God–just takes it as if it belonged to her–and perverts it in secret to make it pleasant to her flesh).  But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

And again the LORD spoke to me further, saying, “Inasmuch as these people have rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah (Siloam), and rejoice in Rezin and the son of Remaliah; now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and it will rise up over all its channels and go over all its banks.  (If we will not drink the waters of the Lord, then He will give us over and force us to drink the waters of the world; and those waters shall not be the gentle waters that bring life and peace, but a flood of waters that shall destroy us.)  Then it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through, it will reach even to the neck; and the spread of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”  (Thus, instead of the shelter and protection of the Lord’s wings they will fall under the wings of Assyria.)
Isaiah 8:5-8

…the nursing child shall play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.  They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 11:8-9

Then you will say on that day (when the Lord leads his people out of Assyria along the highway of holiness even as He did when He led them up out of the land of Egypt), “I will give thanks to Thee, O LORD; for although Thou wast angry with me, Thine anger is turned away, and Thou dost comfort me.  Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.”  Therefore you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.
Isaiah 12:1-3

“I will cut off from Babylon name and survivors, offspring and posterity,” declares the LORD.  “I will also make it a possession for the hedgehog, and swamps of water, and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,” declares the LORD of hosts.  (Consider how the modern Babylon of today’s harlot churches are like swamps of water–they are murky and stagnant and haunts for all sorts of unclean beasts and snakes and creeping and crawling things.
Isaiah 14:22-23

My heart cries out for Moab;…For the waters of Nimrim are desolate.  Surely the grass is withered, the tender grass died out, there is no green thing….For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; surely I will bring added woes upon Dimon, a lion upon the fugitives of Moab and upon the remnant of the land.
Isaiah 15:5-6,9

Alas, the uproar of many peoples who roar like the roaring of the seas, and the rumbling of nations who rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters!  The nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters, but He will rebuke them and they will flee far away, and be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind, or like whirling dust before a gale.  At evening time, behold, there is terror!  Before morning they are no more.  Such will be the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who pillage us.
Isaiah 17:12-14

Alas, oh land of whirring wings which lies beyond the rivers of Cush, which sends envoys by the sea, even in papyrus vessels on the surface of the waters.  Go, swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth, to a people feared far and wide, a powerful and oppressive nation whose land the rivers divide.  All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers on earth, as soon as a standard (the word of God) is raised on the mountains, you will see it, and as soon as the trumpet is blown, you will hear it.  For thus the LORD has told me, “I will look from My dwelling place quietly like dazzling heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”  (Remember that Jesus is coming in the clouds.)  For before the harvest, as soon as the bud blossoms (lit. “is finished”) and the flower becomes a ripening grape, then He will cut off the sprigs with pruning knives and remove and cut away the spreading branches.  They will be left together for mountain birds of prey (those powers of darkness who dwell in the spiritual mountains of man’s religions), and for the beasts of the earth; and the birds of prey will spend the summer feeding on them, and all the beasts of the earth will spend harvest time on them.
Isaiah 18:1-6

The oracle concerning Egypt.  Behold, the LORD is riding on a swift cloud, and is about to come to Egypt (which is a type of the world); the idols of Egypt will tremble at His presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them….And the waters of the sea will dry up, and the river will be parched and dry.  And the canals will emit a stench, the streams of Egypt will thin out and dry up; the reeds and rushes will rot away.  The bulrushes by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile and all the sown fields by the Nile will become dry, be driven away, and be no more.  And the fishermen will lament, and all those who cast a line into the Nile will mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters will pine away.

God removed the defense of Judah.  In that day you depended on the weapons of the house of the forest, and you saw that the breaches in the wall of the city of David were many; and you collected the waters of the lower pool.  Then you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you tore down houses to fortify the wall.  And you made a reservoir between the two walls for the waters of the old pool.  But you did not depend on Him who made it, nor did you take into consideration Him who planned it long ago.
Isaiah 22:8-11

The oracle concerning Tyre.  Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for Tyre is destroyed, without house or harbor; it is reported to them from the land of Cyprus.  Be silent, you inhabitants of the coastland, you merchants of Sidon; your messengers crossed the sea and were on many waters….And it will come about at the end of seventy years that the LORD will visit Tyre.  Then she will go back to her harlot’s wages, and will play the harlot with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth (Tyre was a type of the harlot who sits on many waters that is found in Revelation 17).  And her gain and her harlot’s wages will be set apart to the LORD; it will not be stored up or hoarded, but her gain will become sufficient food and choice attire for those who dwell in the presence of the LORD.
Isaiah 23:1-3,17-18

Woe to the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is at the head of the fertile valley of those who are overcome with wine!  Behold, the Lord has a strong and mighty agent; as a storm of hail, a tempest of destruction, like a storm of mighty overflowing waters, He has cast it down to the earth with His hand….Therefore, hear the word of the LORD, O scoffers, who rule this people who are in Jerusalem, because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have made a pact.  The overwhelming scourge will not reach us when it passes by, for we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception.”  Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.  He who believes in it will not be disturbed.  And I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the level; then hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the secret place.  As often as it passes through, it will seize you.  For morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night.  And it will be sheer terror to understand what it means.”
Isaiah 28:1-2,14-19

Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, “Since you have rejected this word, and have put your trust in oppression and guile, and have relied on them, therefore this iniquity will be to you like a breach about to fall, a bulge in a high wall, whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant (cf. Lk 13:4-5).  And whose collapse is like the smashing of a potter’s jar, so ruthlessly shattered that a sherd will not be found among its pieces to take fire from a hearth, or to scoop water from a cistern.”  (We are the jars of clay, 2 Cor 4:7, and those who reject the word of God and trust instead in the deceitful schemes of the flesh will be utterly shattered so that they shall be completely unable to understand the truth of the word of God which is likened both to water as we have already seen, and to fire, see below and Jer 23:29.)
Isaiah 30:12-14

O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer.  He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.  Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression (the curses of the word of God), He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher.  And your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left….Then he will give you rain for the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plenteous; on that day your livestock will graze in a roomy pasture.  Also the oxen and the donkeys which work the ground will eat salted fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork.  And on every lofty mountain and on every high hill there will be streams running with water on the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.  And the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, on the day the LORD binds up the fracture of His people and heals the bruise He has inflicted.
Behold, the name of the LORD comes from a remote place; burning is His anger, and dense is His smoke; His lips are filled with indignation, and His tongue is like a consuming fire; and His breath (wind, Spirit) is like an overflowing torrent, which reaches to the neck, to shake the nations back and forth in a sieve (spiritual earthquake), and to put in the jaws of the peoples the bridle which misleads to ruin.
Isaiah 30:19-21,23-28

Behold, a king (Jesus) will reign righteously, and princes (those who are led by the Spirit of God and so are sons of God, Rom 8:14) will rule justly.  And each will be like a refuge from the wind, and a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry country, like the shade of a huge rock in a parched land.
Isaiah 32:1-2

How blessed will you be (in the day when the Spirit is poured out and the wilderness becomes a fertile field, etc…), you who sow beside all waters (of truth), who let out freely the ox and the donkey.
Isaiah 32:20

He who walks righteously, and speaks with sincerity; he who rejects unjust gain, and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; he who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil; he will dwell on the heights; his refuge will be the impregnable rock; his bread will be given him; his water will be sure.
Isaiah 33:15-16

Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not.  Behold, your God will come with vengeance; the recompense of God will come, but He will save you.”  Then the eyes of the (spiritually as well as physically) blind will be opened, and the ears of the (spiritually and physically) deaf will be unstopped.  Then the (spiritually and physically) lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the (spiritually and physically) dumb will shout for joy.  For (spiritual) waters will break forth in the wilderness and streams in the Arabah.  And the scorched land will become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, its resting place, grass becomes reeds and rushes.  And a highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness.  The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for him who walks that way, and fools will not wander on it.  No lion will be there, nor will any vicious beast go up on it; These will not be found there.  But the redeemed will walk there, and the ransomed of the LORD will return, and come with joyful shouting to Zion, with everlasting joy upon their heads.  They will find gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Isaiah 35:4-10

Rabshakeh said, “Has my master (the king of Assyria who is a type of Satan, the prince of this world) sent me only to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, doomed ot eat their own dung and drink the water of their feet with you?”…’Do not listen to Hezekiah,’ for thus says the king of Assyria, ‘Make your peace with me and come out to me, and eat each of his vine and each of his fig tree and drink each of the waters of his own cistern, until I come to take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyard…'”  (Notice that Satan promises the very things God does, although it is a treacherous lie.)
Isaiah 36:12,16-17

Through your servants you have reproached the Lord, and you have said, ‘With my many chariots I came up to the heights of the mountains, to the remotest parts of Lebanon; and I cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypresses.  And I will go to its highest peak, its thickest forest.  I dug wells and drank waters, and with the sole of my feet I dried up all the rivers of Egypt.’  Have you not heard?  Long ago I did it, from ancient times I planned it.  Now I have brought it to pass, that you should turn fortified cities into ruinous heaps…
Isaiah 37:24-26

Who has measured the waters (of the sea, DSS) in the hollow of His hand, and marked off the heavens by the span, and calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance and the hills in a pair of scales?
Isaiah 40:12

The afflicted and needy (poor in spirit) are seeking (living) water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst; I, the LORD, will answer them myself; as the God of Israel I will not forsake them.  I will open rivers on the bare heights, and springs in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land fountains of water.  I will put the cedar in the wilderness (by that pool of water), the acacia, and the myrtle, and the olive tree; I will place the juniper in the desert, together with the box tree and the cypress, that they may see and recognize, and consider and gain insight as well, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.  (In the midst of the famine when the poor in spirit are seeking spiritual water for their souls, God will provide for His true sons.  He will plant those trees of righteousness, who are people, in the wilderness by the streams of living water where they will not thirst.)
Isaiah 41:17-20

But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you….Thus says the LORD, who makes a way through the sea and a path through the mighty waters, who brings forth the chariot and the horse, the army and the mighty man (they will lie down together and not rise again; they have been quenched and extinguished like a wick):  “Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past.  Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it?  I will even make a roadway in the wilderness (the highway of holiness), rivers in the desert (notice the connection between the highway of holiness and rivers in the desert: it is the waters of the living word of God that lead us in the way of holiness).  The beasts of the field will glorify Me; the jackals and the ostriches; because I have given waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.
Isaiah 43:1-2,16-20

But now listen, O Jacob, My servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:  Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you, “Do not fear, O Jacob My servant; and you Jeshurun whom I have chosen.  For I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring and My blessing on your descendants; and they will spring up among the grass like poplars by streams of water.”  This one will say, “I am the LORD’s”; and that one will call on the name of Jacob; and another will write on his hand, “Belonging to the LORD,” and will name Israel’s name with honor.
Isaiah 44:1-5

The man shapes iron into a cutting tool, and does his work over the coals, fashioning it with hammers, and working it with his strong arm (creating an idol, the work of his own hands).  He also gets hungry (for he will eat no spiritual bread) and his strength fails; he drinks no (spiritual) water and becomes weary.
Isaiah 44:12

Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are named Israel and who came forth from the waters (NASB translates “loins”) of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD but not in truth nor in righteousness….Go forth from Babylon!  Flee from the Chaldeans!  Declare with the sound of joyful shouting, proclaim this, send it out to the ends of the earth; say, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob.”  And they did not thirst when he led them through the deserts.  He made the water flow out of the rock for them; He split the rock, and the water gushed forth.  “There is no peace for the wicked,” says the LORD.
Isaiah 48:1,20-22

Thus says the LORD, “In a favorable time I have answered You (Jesus), and in a day of salvation I have helped You; and I will keep You and give You for a covenant of the people, to restore the land (of inheritance, the kingdom of God), to make them inherit the desolate heritages; saying to those who are bound, ‘Go forth,’ to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’  Along the roads they will feed, and their pasture will be on all the bare heights.  They will not hunger or thirst, neither will the scorching heat or sun strike them down (Mt 13:6,20-21); for He who has compassion on them will lead them, and will guide them to springs of water.  And I will make all My mountains a road, and My highways will be raised.”
Isaiah 49:8-11

Thus says the LORD, “Where is the certificate of divorce, by which I have sent your mother away?  Or to whom of My creditors did I sell you?  Behold, you were sold for your iniquities, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.  Why was there no man when I came?  When I called, why was there none to answer?  Is My hand so short that it cannot ransom?  Or have I no power to deliver?  Behold, I dry up the sea with My rebuke, I make the rivers a wilderness; their fish stink for lack of water, and die of thirst.  I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.
Isaiah 50:1-3

Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake as in the days of old, the generations of long ago.  Was it not Thou who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the dragon?  Was it not Thou who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep; who made the depths of the sea a pathway for the redeemed to cross over?

Isaiah 51:9-10

For this is like the days of Noah to Me; when I swore that the waters of Noah should not flood the earth again, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor will I rebuke you (notice that here the waters of Noah are a type of the anger of the Lord).  For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, but My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, and My covenant of peace will not be shaken.
Isaiah 54:9-10

Ho!  Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money come, buy and eat.  Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.  Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?  Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance.
Isaiah 55:1-2

The wicked are like the tossing sea, for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up refuse and mud.  “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
Isaiah 57:20-21

[If you repent, then…] The LORD will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail (NASB text note: “or deceive“).
Isaiah 58:11

Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock?  Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them, Who caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, Who divided the waters before them to make for Himself an everlasting name, Who led them through the depths?
Isaiah 63:11-13

Oh, that Thou wouldst rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at Thy presence–as fire kindles the brushwood, as fire causes water to boil–to make Thy name known to Thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Thy presence!
Isaiah 64:1-2

Be appalled, O heavens, at this, and shudder, be very  desolate,” declares the LORD.  “For My people have committed two evils:  They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves (i.e., to build their own religion and do their own works) cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water….But now what are you doing on the road to Egypt (the world), to drink the waters of the Nile (the ways of the world)?  Or what are you doing on the road to Assyria, to drink the waters of the Euphrates?”
Jeremiah 2:12-13,18

Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have ears, but hear not.  ‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the LORD.  ‘Do you not tremble in My presence?  For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, an eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it.  Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail; though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.  But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and departed.’  (I.e., they have not restrained that evil in the world of which the sea is a type).
Jeremiah 5:21-23

If the sea and its roaring waves represent the nations in their hostility to God’s righteous and sovereign reign over creation, then the sand of the seashore represents that which restrains the nations, i.e., the true saints of God through the Spirit of God leading them in righteousness to be the salt of the world (recall God’s promise to Abraham that his seed would be as the sand of the sea, and also how the dragon in Revelation 13:1 stood on the sand of the sea shore to make war against the saints).

As a well keeps cold (NASB = fresh) its waters, so she (Jerusalem) keeps cold her wickedness.  Violence and destruction are heard in her; sickness and wounds are ever before Me.
Jeremiah 6:7

Why are we sitting still?  Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities, and let us perish there, because the LORD our God has doomed us and given us poisoned water to drink, for we have sinned against the LORD.
Jeremiah 8:14

Oh, that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
Jeremiah 9:1

Who is the wise man that may understand this?  And who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it?  Why is the land (of inheritance which represents the kingdom of God) ruined, laid waste like a desert (i.e. a desolation), so that no one passes through?  And the LORD said, “(It is) because they have forsaken My law which I set before them (the law was the terms of the covenant), and have not obeyed My voice nor walked according to it, but have walked after the stubbornness of their heart and after the Baals (the gods of this age, the man of lawlessness who leads the people into lawlessness), as their fathers taught them.”  Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, “Behold, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood and give them poisoned water (doctrines of demons) to drink.”
Jeremiah 9:12-15

Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider and call for the mourning women that they may come; and send for the wailing women, that they may come!  And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may shed tears, and our eyelids flow with water.  For a voice of wailing is heard from Zion, ‘How are we ruined!  We are put to great shame, for we have left the land (of our inheritance, the kingdom of God), because they (the powers of darkness) have cast down our dwellings.'”
Jeremiah 9:17-19

It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom; and by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.  When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain, and brings out the wind from His storehouses.  Every man is stupid devoid of knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his molten images are deceitful, and there is no breath in them.
Jeremiah 10:12-14

Thus the LORD said to me, “Go and buy yourself a linen waistband, and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water (for the people of Judah and Jerusalem, whom the waistband represents, would not immerse themselves in the water of the Lord).”  So I bought the waistband in accordance with the word of the LORD and put it around my waist.  Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, “Take the waistband that you have bought, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a crevice of the rock.”  So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD had commanded me.  And it came about after many days that the LORD said to me, “Arise, go to the Euphrates and take from there the waistband which I commanded you to hide there.”  Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the waistband from the place were I had hidden it; and lo, the waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless (for over time it had slowly and imperceptibly deteriorated until it was completely destroyed, even though it was hidden so close to the great river, which represents the great river of truth that flows from God, that could have washed it and made it clean and useful).
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Just so (slowly, like a moth and like rottenness, cf. Hosea 5:11-12) will I destroy the pride of Judah (who claim to be the people of God) and the great pride of Jerusalem (a type of today’s apostate church).  This wicked people, who refuse to listen to My words (they would not immerse themselves in the water of the LORD), who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to bow down to them, let them be just like this waistband, which is totally worthless (reprobate).  For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,’ declares the LORD, ‘that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they did not listen‘ (they would not immerse themselves in the water of the LORD).
“Therefore, you are to speak this word to them, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, “Every jug is to be filled with wine.”‘ And when they say to you, ‘Do we not very well know that every jug is to be filled with wine?’ then say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Behold I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this (spiritual) land–the kings (spiritual leaders) that sit for David on his throne, the priests (preachers), the prophets (teachers) and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem (a type of today’s harlot church)–with drunkenness (the drunkenness of perverted doctrines of demons that will lead them to believe a lie and over time, slowly and imperceptibly, just like a moth and like rottenness, destroy them)!  And I will dash them against each other, both the fathers and the sons together,” declares the LORD.  “I will not show pity nor be sorry nor have compassion that I should not destroy them.”‘”
Jeremiah 13:1-14

That which came as the word of the LORD  to Jeremiah in regard to the drought:  “Judah mourns, and her gates languish; they sit on the ground in mourning, and the cry of Jerusalem has ascended.  And their nobles have sent their little ones for water; they have come to the cisterns and found no water.  They have returned with their vessels empty; they have been put to shame and humiliated, and they cover their heads.  Because the ground is shattered, for there has been no rain on the land; the farmers have been put to shame, they have covered their heads.
Jeremiah 14:1-4

Thou who knowest, O LORD, remember me, take notice of me, and take vengeance for me on my persecutors.  Do not, in view of Thy patience, take me away; know that for Thy sake I endure reproach.  Thy words were found and I ate them, and Thy words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I have been called by Thy name, O LORD God of hosts.  I did not sit in the circle of merrymakers, nor did I exult.  Because of Thy hand upon me I sat alone, for Thou didst fill me with indignation.  Why has my pain been perpetual and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed?  Wilt Thou indeed be to me like a deceptive stream with water that is unreliable?
Therefore, thus says the LORD, “If you return (NIV reads “repent”, then I will restore you–before Me you will stand; and if you extract the precious from the worthless, you will become My spokesman.  They for their part may turn to you, but as for you, you must not turn to them.  Then I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; and though they fight against you, they will not prevail over you; for I am with you to save you and deliver you,” declares the LORD.  “So I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you from the grasp of the violent.”
Jeremiah 15:15-21

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD.  For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit….O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake Thee will be put to shame.  Those who turn away on earth will be written down, because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the LORD.
Jeremiah 17:7-8,13

Ask now among the nations, who ever heard the like of this?  The virgin of Israel has done a most appalling thing.  Does the snow of Lebanon forsake the rock of the open country?  Or is the cold flowing water from a foreign land ever snatched away (or perhaps, “dried up”)?  (I.e., has the source of Israel’s spiritual water ever forsaken them?  No, …)  Yet my people have forsaken Me, they burn incense to worthless gods and they have stumbled from their ways, from the ancient paths, to walk in bypaths, not on a highway, to make their land a desolation, an object of perpetual hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and shake his head.
Jeremiah 18:13-16

Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an offensive thing:  They prophesied by Baal (the god of this age) and led My people Israel astray.  Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing:  The committing of adultery and walking in falsehood; and they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one has turned back from his wickedness.  All of them have become to Me like Sodom, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah.  Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets, “Behold I am going to feed them wormwood (a deluding influence) and make them drink poisonous water (doctrines of demons), for from the prophets (preachers) of Jerusalem (what is today called church) pollution has gone forth into all the land.”
Jeremiah 23:13-15

Thus says the LORD, “Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chiefs of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, ‘O LORD, save Thy people, the remnant of Israel.’  Behold, I am bringing them from the north country (the land of their exile, of the king of Babylon, Satan’s kingdom), and I will gather them from the remote parts of the earth (where they were scattered for their sins), among them the (spiritually) blind and the lame (those who cannot walk uprightly in straight paths), the woman with child and she who is in labor with child (those in whom Christ is just forming or who have just brought forth Christ into their lives), together; a great company, they shall return here.  With weeping they shall come, and by supplication I will lead them; I will make them walk by streams of waters, on a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is My first born.”
Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare in the coastlands afar off, and say, “He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.”  For the LORD has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he (Satan, the king of Babylon).  And they shall come and shout for joy on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the bounty of the LORD–over the grain (spiritual fruit), and the new wine (sound doctrine and godly instruction), and the oil (of the Spirit), and over the young of the flock and the herd (the whole land will be fruitful and full of bounty); and their life shall be like a watered garden (i.e., fruitful), and they shall never languish again.
Jeremiah 31:7-9

Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malchijah the king’s son, which was in the court of the guardhouse; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes.  Now in the cistern there was no water but only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud (mire).
Jeremiah 38:6

Then Ishmael took captive all the remnant of the people who were in Mizpah, the king’s daughters and all the people who were left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard had put under the charge of Gedaliah the son of Ahikam (whom Ishmael had murdered); thus Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them captive and proceeded to cross over to the sons of Ammon.  But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done.  So they took all the man and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and they found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.
Jeremiah 41:10-12

Let not the swift man (of the spiritual land of Egypt) flee, nor the might man (after the flesh) escape; in the north beside the river Euphrates (which represents the great river of truth that is the word of God) they have stumbled and fallen.  Who is this that rises like the Nile, like the rivers whose waters surge about?  Egypt rises like the Nile, even like the rivers whose waters surge about (the waters of the world come and go); and He has said, “I will rise and cover that land; I will surely destroy the city and its inhabitants.”
Jeremiah 46:6-8

That which came as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh conquered Gaza.  Thus says the LORD: “Behold, waters are going to rise from the north and become an overflowing torrent (this is the flood of words that comes forth from the mouth of the dragon in Rev 12:15), and overflow the land and all its fulness, the city and those who live in it; and the men will cry out, and every inhabitant of the land will wail.  Because of the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his (the king of Babylon’s, Satan’s) mighty ones, the tumult of his chariots, and the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers have not turned back for their children, because of the limpness of their hands, on account of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines….
Jeremiah 47:1-4

“From the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, even to Jahaz they have raised their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim and to Eglath-shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim will become desolate.  And I will make an end of Moab,” declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 48:34-35

A drought on her (Babylon’s) waters, and they will be dried up!  For it is a land of idols, and they are mad over fearsome idols.
Jeremiah 50:38

O you who dwell by many waters (Babylon), abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your end.  The LORD of hosts has sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you with a population like locusts, and they will cry out with shouts of victory over you.”
Jeremiah 51:13-14

I also heard the sound of their wings (the living beings in Ezekiel’s visions of God by the river Chebar) like the sound of abundant waters as they went, like the voice of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of an army camp; whenever they stood still, they dropped their wings.
Ezekiel 1:24

Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, behold, I am going to break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and drink water by measure and in horror, because bread and water will be scarce; and they will be appalled with one another and waste away in their iniquity (for there will also be no bread nor water of the word of God to lead them in the way of righteousness, just as it is today).
Ezekiel 4:16-17

Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me saying, “Son of man, eat your bread with trembling, and drink your water with quivering and anxiety.  Then say to the people of the land, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel, “They will eat their bread with anxiety and drink their water with horror, because their land will be stripped of its fulness on account of the violence of all who live in it.”‘”  (Because there is no spiritual fruit in the land of their inheritance their spiritual bread and water of the word will be curses to them; thus it will be to them anxiety and horror.)
Ezekiel 12:17-19

Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations, and say, “Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem, ‘Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite (pagans).  As for your birth, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water for cleansing; you were not rubbed with salt (of the covenant) or even wrapped in cloths (garments of salvation).  No eye looked with pity on you to do any of these things for you, to have compassion on you.  Rather you were thrown out into the open field, for you were abhorred on the day you were born….Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold you were at the time for love; so I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness.  I also swore to  you and entered into a covenant with you so that you became Mine,’ declares the Lord GOD.  ‘Then I bathed you with water (of the word), washed off your blood from you, and anointed you with oil (of the Spirit).  I also clothed you with embroidered cloth, and put sandals of porpoise skin on your feet (so she might walk uprightly); and I wrapped you with fine linen and covered you with silk (she was clothed by God with all the garments of salvation).  And I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands, and a necklace around your neck (she was adorned with all the fruit of the Spirit)….'”
Ezekiel 16:2-5,8-11

Son of man, propound a riddle, and speak a parable to  the house of Israel, saying, “Thus says the Lord GOD, ‘A great eagle (the king of Babylon) with great wings, long pinions and a full plumage of many colors, came to Lebanon and took away the top of the cedar (the king of Israel).  He plucked off the topmost of its young twigs (the princes) and brought it to a land of merchants; he set it in a city of traders.  He also took some of the seed (the young men, like Daniel, Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego) of the land and planted it in fertile soil.  He placed it beside abundant waters (where it might grow and be fruitful, even though in subjection); he set it like a willow.  Then it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine with its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it (it remained its own planting; although its branches were turned toward the king of Babylon and the people were made to serve under his authority, still its root were under it, the people remained the people of God).  So it became a vine, and yielded shoots and sent out branches.
But there was another great eagle (Pharaoh, the king of Egypt who is a type of the world and its ways that tempt us to rebel against the authority God has put over us) with great wings and much plumage; and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and sent out its branches toward him from the beds where it was planted, that he might water it.  It was planted in good soil beside abundant water, that it might yield branches and bear fruit, and become a splendid vine.'”  Say, “Thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Will it thrive?  Will he (the king of Babylon) not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers–so that all its sprouting leaves wither?  And neither by great strength nor by many people can it be raised from its roots again.  Behold, though it is planted, will it thrive?  Will it not completely wither as soon as the east wind strikes it–wither on the beds where it grew?'”
Ezekiel 17:2-10, cf 11-21

“As for you, take  up a lamentation for the princes of Israel, and say, ‘What was your mother?  A lioness among lions!  She lay down among young lions, she reared her cubs….Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, planted by the waters; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant waters.  And it had strong branches (princes, leaders to rule) fit for scepters of rulers, and its height was raised above the clouds so that it was seen in its height with the mass of its branches.  But it was plucked up in fury; it was cast down to the ground; and the east wind dried up its fruit.  Its strong branch was torn off so that it withered; the fire consumed it.  And now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.  And fire has gone out from its branch; it has consumed its shoots and fruit, so that there is not in it a strong branch, a scepter to rule.'”
Ezekiel 19:1-2,10-14

As for you, son of man, groan with breaking heart and bitter grief, groan in their sight.  And it will come about when they say to you, “Why do you groan?” that you will say, “Because of the news that is coming; and every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak (lit. “flow”) as water.  Behold, it comes and it will happen,” declares the Lord GOD.
Ezekiel 21:6-7

And the word of the LORD came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying, “Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day.  The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.  And speak a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Put on the pot, put it on, and also pour water in it (the water of God’s wrath); gather her pieces, every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with choice bones.  Take the choicest of the flock, and also pile wood under the pot, make it boil vigorously.  Also seethe its bones in it.”
‘Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, “Woe to the bloody city, to the pot in which there is rust and whose rust has not gone out of it!…”‘”
Ezekiel 24:1-6

And they will take up a lamentation over you (Tyre) and say to you, “How you have perished, O inhabited one, from the seas, o renowned city, which was mighty on the sea, she and her inhabitants, who imposed her terror on all her inhabitants!  Now the coastlands will tremble on the day of your fall; yes, the coastlands which are by the sea will be terrified at your passing.”  For thus says the Lord GOD, “When I shall make you a desolate city, like the cities which are not inhabited, when I shall bring up the deep over you, and the great waters will cover you, then I shall bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I shall make you dwell in the lower parts of the earth, like the ancient waste places, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I shall set glory in the land of the living….”
Ezekiel 26:17-20

The ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your (Tyre’s) merchandise.  And you were filled and were very glorious in the heart of the seas.  Your rowers have brought you into great waters; the east wind has broken you in the heart of the seas.  Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise, your sailors, and your pilots, your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, with all your company that is in your midst, will fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your overthrow….Now that you are broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your merchandise and all your company have fallen in the midst of you….
Ezekiel 27:25-27,34

Behold, Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon with beautiful branches and forest shade, and very high; and its top was among the clouds.  The waters made it grow, the deep made it high.  With its rivers it continually extended all around its planting place, and it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field and its boughs became many and its branches long because of many waters as it spread them out.  All the birds of the heavens nested in its boughs, and under its branches all the beasts of the field gave birth, and all great nations lived under its shade.  So it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches; for its roots extended to many waters.  (Notice how the waters are the source of life of the trees).  The cedars in God’s garden could not match it; the cypresses could not compare with its boughs, and the plane trees could not match its branches.  No tree in God’s garden could compare with it in its beauty.  (The tree of Assyria is a type of Satan).  I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches, and all the trees of Eden (the nations of the world, which are types of the other “sons of God” or angelic majesties), which were in the garden of God were jealous of it.
Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, “Because it is high in stature, and it has set its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness, therefore, I will give it into the hand of a despot of the nations; he will thoroughly deal with it.  According to its wickedness I have driven it away.  And alien tyrants of the nations have cut it down and left it; on the montains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs have been broken in all the ravines of the land.  And all the peoples of the earth have gone down from its shade and left it.  On its ruin all the birds of the heavens will dwell.  And all the beasts of the field will be on its fallen branches in order that all the trees by the waters may not be exalted in their stature, nor set their top among the clouds, nor their well-watered mighty ones stand erect in their height.  For they have all been given over to death, to the earth beneath, among the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit.”
Thus says the Lord GOD, “On the day when it went down to Sheol I caused lamentations; I closed the deep over it and held back its rivers.  And its many waters were stopped up (a time of spiritual famine; recall from the book of Jonah that at least during his preaching, and perhaps at some time prior to its fall into sin, Ninevah, the capital of the Assyrian empire, flowed with the spiritual water of God’s truth.  Neither was that water without effect in producing fruit, for at least at Jonah’s preaching its people believed God and repented of their wickedness–so that we might wonder if at some time prior to its fall into sin it also brought forth the peaceful fruit of righteousness.  It is interesting to contemplate how the United States is very like Assyria in this narrative and wonder if in the future people will look back and see it, like Assyria, as proud and haughty and ultimately God’s enemy that He cut down for its wickedness.), and I made Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field wilted away on account of it.  I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I made it go down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit; and all the well–watered trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, were comforted in the earth beneath….”
Ezekiel 31:3-16

Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, “You compared yourself to a young lion of the nations, yet you are like the monster in the seas; and you burst forth in your rivers, and muddied the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers….The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you.  By the swords of the mighty ones I will cause your multitude to fall; all of them are tyrants of the nations, and they shall devastate the pride of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed.  I will also destroy all its cattle from beside many waters; and the foot of man shall not muddy them anymore, and the hoofs of beasts shall not muddy them.  Then I will make their waters settle, and will cause their rivers to run like oil,” declares the Lord GOD.
Ezekiel 32:2,11-14

And as for you, my flock, thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I will judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and the male goats.  Is it too slight a thing for you that you should feed in the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pastures?  Or that you should drink of the clear waters, that you must foul the rest with your feet?  And as for My flock, they must eat what you tread down with your feet, and they must drink what you foul with your feet!”
Ezekiel 34:17-19

For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands, and bring you into your own land.  Then I will sprinkle clean water on you (i.e., He will teach them sound doctrine by which they may be purified spiritually), and you will be clean (notice then how we are made clean); I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.  Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.

Then he led me to the gate, the gate facing toward the east; and behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the east.  And His voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory.

Then he brought me back to the door of the house; and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east.  And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar.  And he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east.  And behold, water was trickling down from the south side.
When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles.  Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees.  Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins.  Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be forded.  (In this way a trickle of truth from the throne of God becomes a river of life in the barren wilderness of man’s sinful state).  And he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?”  Then he brought me back to the bank of the river.  Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many trees (of righteousness) on the one side and on the other.  Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the Arabah; then they go toward the sea (the Dead Sea, where there is no life), being made to flow into the sea, and the waters of the sea become fresh (lit. healed).  And it will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the river goes, will live.  And there will be very many fish (i.e., men who live in the spiritual water from God’s throne), for these waters go there, and the others become fresh (are healed); so everything will live where the river goes (this is a great truth).  And it will come about that fishermen (apostles and prophets and evangelists and pastors and teachers) will stand beside it; from Engedi to Eneglaim (Engedi is on one side of the Dead Sea, Eneglaim is on the other side) there will be a place for the spreading of nets.  Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea, very many.  But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh (lit. healed); they will be left for salt.  And by the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of trees for food.  Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail.  They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their leaves for healing.“
Ezekiel 47:1-12

But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank.  (Daniel would not submit himself to the doctrines of Babylon)….”Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink….”

Then I, Daniel, looked and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the river, and the other on that bank of the river.  And one said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be until the end of these wonders?”  And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; and as soon as they finish shattering the power of the holy people, all these events will be completed.

For their mother has played the harlot; she who conceived them has acted shamefully.  For she said, “I will go after my lovers, who give me my (spiritual) bread and my (spiritual) water, my wool and my flax (with which to make spiritual garments of supposed salvation), my (spiritual) oil (of anointing) and my drink.”

The princes of Judah have become like those who move a boundary; on them I will pour out My wrath like water (i.e., all the curses of the water of the word will be poured out on them).

To Thee, O LORD, I cry; for fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned up all the (spiritual) trees of the field.  Even the beasts of the field pant for Thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Joel 1:19-20

And it will come about in that day that the mountains will drip with sweet wine, and the hills will flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah will flow with water; and a spring will go out from the house of the LORD , to water the valley of Shittim (or acacias, a tree of the field that is a type of the sons of righteousness).

“I gave you cleanness of teeth (famine) in all your cities and lack of bread in all your places, yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the LORD.  “And furthermore, I withheld the rain (of the Spirit) from you while there were still three months until harvest (cf. Jn 4:35).  Then I would send rain on one city and on another city I would not send rain; one part would be rained on, while the part not rained on would dry up.  So two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink water, but would not be satisfied; yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the LORD.
Amos 4:6-8

He who made the Pleiades and Orion and changes deep darkness into morning, who also darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the LORD is His name.

I hate, I reject your festivals (church socials), nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies (prayer meetings).  Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings (forms of worship), I will not accept them; and I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings.  Take away from Me the noise of your (praise) songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps (musical instruments).  But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
Amos 5:21-24

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the LORD.  And people will stagger from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they will go to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.  In that day the beautiful virgins and the young men will faint from thirst (a thirst for the word).”
Amos 8:11-13

Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish, and he said, “…For Thou hadst cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current engulfed me.  All Thy breakers and billows passed over me….Water encompassed me to the point of death.  The great deep engulfed me, weeds were wrapped around my head.

And he (the king of Assyria) issued a proclamation and it said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing.  Do not let them eat or drink water (but rather let them seek spiritual bread and water, which is the purpose of fasting from physical food and water).  But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.  Who knows, God may turn and relent, and withdraw His burning anger so that we shall not perish?”
Jonah 3:7-9

Behold, the LORD is coming forth from His place.  He will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.  The (spiritual) mountains will melt under Him, and the valleys will be split, like wax before the fire, like water poured down a steep place.
Micah 1:3-4

Though Nineveh was like a pool of water (about which people congregated because it was a source of life) throughout her days, now they are fleeing; “Stop, stop,” but no one turns back.
Nahum 2:8

Are you (Nineveh) better than No-amon (Thebes), which was situated by the waters of the Nile, with water surrounding her, whose rampart was the sea, whose wall consisted of the sea?
Nahum 3:8

Draw for yourself (you inhabitants of Ninevah, whom we can see as typifying our own nation) water for the siege (spiritual water for a spiritual siege)!  Strengthen your fortifications!  Go into the clay and tread the mortar!  Take hold of the brick mold!  (But none of it will avail, for…) There fire will consume you, the sword will cut you down; it will consume you as the locust does.
Nahum 3:14-15

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Did the LORD rage against the rivers, or was Thine anger against the rivers, or was Thy wrath against the sea, that Thou didst ride on Thy horses, on Thy chariots of salvation?  Thy bow was made bare, the rods of chastisement were sworn.  Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.  The mountains saw Thee and quaked; the downpour of waters swept by.  The deep uttered forth its voice, it lifted high its hands….In indignation Thou didst march through the earth; in anger Thou didst trample the nations.  Thou didst go forth for the salvation of Thy people, for the salvation of Thine anointed.  Thou didst strike the head of the house of the evil to lay him open from thigh to neck.  Thou didst pierce with his own spears the head of his throngs.  They stormed in to scatter us; their exultation was like those who devour the oppressed in secret.  Thou didst tread on the sea with Thy horses, on the surge of many waters.
Habakkuk 3:8-10,12-15

As for you also, because of the blood of My covenant with you, I have set your prisoners free from the cistern in which there is no water (which is the whore, harlot church of Babylon).
Zechariah 9:11

And it will come about in that day that living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.
