What Does the Bible Say About Spiritual Adultery?

[The sons of Israel] played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down to them.  They turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of the LORD. (Judges 2:17).

My people consult their wooden idol, and their diviner’s wand informs them; for a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have played the harlot, departing from their God. (Hosea 4:12).

I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and was a harlot also.  And it came about because of the lightness of her harlotry, that she polluted the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.  (Jeremiah 3:8-9).

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?  Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4, NIV).
