Then (after destroying the whole house of Ahab) Jehu (whose name is related to Jehovah, the name of God) gathered all the people and said to them, “Ahab served Baal a little; Jehu will serve him much. And now, summon all the prophets of Baal, all his worshipers and all his priests; let no one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal; whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu did it in cunning, in order that he might destroy the worshipers of Baal (and also as a type of the way the Lord will destroy all who in the unfaithfulness of their heart serve a false god; in all that follows, consider that Baal means “Lord” and that the many who come to Jesus and say “Lord, Lord,” and do not do what He says are in fact serving another Jesus, a false Jesus and a false god, who, not unlike the Baal spoken of here, is more pleasing to their flesh). And Jehu said, “Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal,” and they proclaimed it. Then Jehu sent throughout Israel and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. And when they went into the house of Baal, the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other (just like it is today). And he said to the one who was in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out garments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out garments for them. (These are the garments of a false salvation, with which contrast Is 61:10, that gives those who are called to the Lord’s sacrifice a false security that they are clothed in righteousness.) And Jehu went into the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab; and he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search and see that there may be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but only the worshipers of Baal.” (Jehu gave opportunity for any servant of the Lord to escape. For in the same way does the Lord give to His servants who have eyes to see what is about to happen the opportunity to Escape from Babylon: “Come out of her, my people, that you may not participate in her sins and that you may not receive of her plagues.”) Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed for himself eighty men outside (birds which fly in midheaven), and he had said, “The one who permits any of the men whom I bring into your hands to escape, shall give up his life in exchange.”
Then it came about as soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the royal officers, “Go in, kill them; let none come out.” And they killed them with the edge of the sword (which is a type of the word of God); and the guard and the royal officers threw them out, and went to the inner room of the house of Baal. And they brought out the sacred pillars of the house of Baal, and burned them. They also broke down the sacred pillar of Baal and broke down the house of Baal, and made it a latrine to this day. Thus Jehu eradicated Baal out of Israel (and thus will the Lord eradicate all false gods and their worshipers from spiritual Israel, which is the Church, cf. 1 Cor 10:11, Rom 15:4).
2 Kings 10:18-28
Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the LORD is near, for the LORD has prepared a sacrifice, He has consecrated His guests. Then it will come about on the day of the LORD’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all who clothe themselves with foreign garments (of salvation). And I will punish on that day all who leap on the threshold (in deference to a false god, cf. 1 Sam 5:5), who fill the house of their Lord with violence and deceit (they live a lie)….And it will come about at that time that I will search Jerusalem (which is called “Church” today) with lamps (cf. Prov 20:27), and I will punish the men who are stagnant in spirit, who say in their hearts, “The LORD will not do good or evil!” Moreover their wealth will become plunder (for the birds of heaven who will feed on their flesh), and their houses desolate (because of all their abominations, cf. Mt 24:15); yes, they will build houses (both spiritual and physical) but not inhabit them (this is part of the curse for covenant disobedience, cf. Dt 28:30), and plant vineyards (of truth) but not drink their wine (of sound doctrine, for they will be ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth).
Zephaniah 1:7-9,12-13
And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven (the Lord’s consecrated guests, the powers of darkness, those agents of the Lord’s wrath who execute judgement upon the wicked), “Come, assemble for the great supper of God; in order that you may eat the flesh of (spiritual) kings and the flesh of (spiritual) commanders and the flesh of mighty men (i.e., who are mighty after the flesh) and the flesh of horses (which represents the strength of the flesh) and of those who sit on them (i.e., who rely on the strength of the flesh) and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great.”…And [they] were killed with the sword (the word of God, especially the curses promised throughout for covenant disobedience, cf. Dt 28:15-68 and Heb 10:26-31) which came from the mouth of him who sat upon the horse (Jesus, the living Word), and all the birds were filled with their flesh.
